OWINGS MILLS – Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs continues to deliver joking barbs in the direction of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Suggs took a swing at Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson after Simpson handed him back his helmet, which was knocked off by offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth.

Why did Suggs throw a punch?

"He came saying Tom Brady was his favorite quarterback," Suggs said with a laugh. "So, it was instantly beef. It was rap beef, though, it wasn’t street beef."

However, Simpson had a different version of events.

Simpson told Cincinnati reporters he got an earful from Suggs.

"Those guys were chirping all night. It was mostly Suggs. I don’t know why," Simpson said. "He was telling me I’d be out of the league next year. He said he had more catches than me. It was all in fun.

"I was going to give him his helmet. "I said, ‘He got you on the ground.’ He got mad and hit me with his right arm. It landed, but it didn’t faze me."

Simpson said he informed a referee about what happened. Suggs wasn’t penalized on the play.

"I said, ‘Look, he blatantly hit me,’" Simpson said. "But that’s OK."

JIM HARBAUGH UPDATE: Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he doesn’t think his brother will be coaching the University of Michigan next fall.

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has been mentioned as a potential candidate to coach his alma mater as well as being linked to job searches with the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos. Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson said today that the team hasn’t had any contact with Harbaugh.

"I don’t know what he’s going to do," Harbaugh said during his weekly WBAL radio program tonight. "I think the Michigan thing is done now. I think that’s over. I don’t think he’s going to have anything to do with that. I think that says a lot about Stanford."

If that’s indeed the case, it looks like Harbaugh will either remain at Stanford or bolt to the NFL.

NOT AFRAID: Former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said that the Ravens are overjoyed not to be facing his old team in the playoffs.

"John Harbaugh is happy," said Dungy, an NBC analyst. "He’s never going to say it. He’s going to give you all the coach speak, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ But they had lost eight times to Indianapolis. They’re ecstatic that they’re going to Kansas City."

Harbaugh would beg to differ.

"It doesn’t matter," Harbaugh said. "Once you get your assignment, that’s the one you’re excited about. If it had been the Colts, we’d be excited about that, and you turn your attention to them. It’s Kansas City. I watched the game. It was the Colts, it was Kansas City, it was the Colts, it was Kansas City. Oops, it’s Kansas City. It was crazy. You guys think some of our games are crazy. That’s football. That’s the National Football League, right?

"And I’m excited that it’s Kansas City. But now you look at them and you’re like, ‘Wow, this is going to be a big challenge.’ This is going to be a tough football game. There’s a reason these guys have the record they have. There’s a reason they won their division. There’s a reason they got a home game. It’s really a tough place to play. Historically in the playoffs, it’s been an incredibly tough place to play. So we’ve got our hands full. But, as far as judging the two, what’s the point?"

REINFORCEMENTS: The Ravens have been gradually expanding the playing time of reserve defensive tackle Brandon McKinney. McKinney played in 11 games this season, starting four. He recorded nine tackles.

"Brandon has played really well," Harbaugh said. "He’s been really good against the run. He’s a 330-pound guy, he can bend and move his feet, and he plays great technique. And he’s been a run-stuffer for us and done a really good job."

Meanwhile, rookie nose guard Terrence Cody has been playing more in a rotation with veteran Kelly Gregg.

He has played in 13 games with one start, posting 13 tackles, four in the regular-season finale against the Bengals.

"Terrence is playing very well, yep," Harbaugh said. "I think he has really grown as a player. He’s a big part of what we do. He’s learned under the tutelage of Kelly Gregg and Clarence Brooks.

"He’s adapted to the technique system that we use, the two-gap system. He’s done really well. He’s playing good."

SIGNALING FOR THE LEFTY: The Ravens are bringing in left-footed Australian punter Dan Power Thursday for a workout to prepare for Kansas City Chiefs lefty punter Dustin Colquitt.

The Ravens typically bring in lefty punters before games against left-footed punters.

Power recently worked out for the Chicago Bears, but wasn’t signed.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of Brisbane, Australia.

Power played Australian Rules Football.

He has worked out twice for the San Diego Chargers this season.

Power has also worked out for the New York Jets in the past and was scouted by the Miami Dolphins.
