At least once per year, the eyeballs of most tech geeks are focused on Cupertino, CA to see what Apple will come out with next. Nike will attempt to emulate technology’s pioneers this April when they unveil the next generation of NFL uniforms as they become the league’s official sports apparel company.

On April 3, all eyes will be directed towards the BIG Apple when Nike reveals their new NFL swag to curious and drooling football fans around the globe.

The swoosh will replace Reebok which has been on NFL uniforms the past 10 seasons.

In the NCAA, the uniform buzz has been around for years. Ever since the birth of Under Armour and their cutting edge clothing technology, Nike has been trying to keep up.

This competition has opened the door to just as much chatter about uniforms in the college ranks as there is about the play on the field each Saturday. Even the most casual college football fan will tune into a game featuring Oregon, TCU, Boise State or Maryland, just to see what the team is wearing.

Looking good on the field has taken on a new meaning.

For apparel companies like Nike, even if the uniforms divide a fan base into what does and doesn’t look good, it’s a marketing success.

Nike has already said they don’t plan to give every uniform a massive makeover but some changes besides the fabric will happen.

Fans of the most classic franchises in the NFL shouldn’t expect much of a change but teams with already more advanced designs like the Seattle Seahawks should expect somewhat of a new look.

Nike has a popular “Pro Combat” design, which is featured by some of the highest ranked NCAA teams. While Nike disputed photos “leaked” of Pro Combat designs a month after the October 2010 announcement, it has been rumored that teams will receive a totally redone uniform to be worn at least once per season.

Designs such as a matte black helmet for teams with typical black helmets wouldn’t be unrealistic for Nike to bring to the professional level.

One thing is for sure, more men will care about fashion on April 3rd than they ever have before.
