This week, I had the great privilege to ask Baltimore’s own CB Lardarius Webb a few questions!
Now, all Ravens fans know that Webb is one of the most highly coveted free agents this offseason. (If you don’t, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?) Webb leaving Charm City would be one of the worst outcomes of the Free Agency period for Baltimore.
Multiple sources have speculated that the Patriots are very interested in Webb. It makes sense considering that the Patriots defense is PITIFUL. But let’s be honest here, reading this article you are still having flashbacks of what those dreaded Pats did to us last year. We can only pray that a team like New England doesn’t jump in and grab Lardarius.
Assuming Webb listens to us and stays, we are looking at another exciting season.
I asked Lardarius about the difference between covering as a nickel and covering as a corner.
“Corner is man to man, one on one! The best man wins. Nickel back is more like the outside backer who covers also. The nickel back sets the defense before every play. My opinion, you have to use more brain at nickel.”
Webb is fun to watch in whatever he plays. As a Nickel-back or a Cornerback, he is always a ball hawk that the opposing QB must be worried about. If Webb is on the field, it’s always a show!
With the devastating loss to Chuck Pagano this year, Webb and the rest of the D are going to have to learn Dean Pees’ system. Webb doesn’t seem too concerned about the move but it will surely be different!
“I’m going to miss him being around and being good ole Chuck!”
Chuck Pagano really had strong relationships with his players and that one-on-one relationship is something that is hard to replace.
Something that has been tossed around among fans is who the replacement will be when Ed Reed retires. We know that Webb is great in the secondary so I had a curious question for Mr. Webb.
I wondered if he would ever be interested in playing in the safety position. He replied with a simple, classic answer- “I love my job!”
Being as versatile as he is, these next two questions I asked Lardarius didn’t surprise me!
I wanted to know if he was not a Cornerback what other position would he like to play. I was not surprised when he simply said: “Wide Receiver”
OK, so what is Lardarius’ other favorite sport?
He joked with me and commented: “Football!” but further responded “Lol I love basketball” I can see him on the court and I believe he would be just as dynamic.
With a first round tender on Webb, it will take a lot for a team to grab Webb. But it could still happen! So with St. Patrick’s Day here, let’s hope the Ravens get a little luck!
Thanks again to Lardarius Webb for taking the time to do this interview!
