It is no secret that the Ravens have been abnormally quiet during the beginning of the 2012 Free Agency period. Many people have been criticizing the team for not going out and getting top players like DE Mark Anderson or former Chargers WR Vincent Jackson.
I know that missing out on these guys appears to be awful, but no need to fret Ravens fans. I think Ozzie Newsome has a plan.
Of course picking up players like Jackson and Anderson would be huge acquisitions for the team, but I think that we have players of the same skill-sets right here on the team!
Here are some of the players that I am VERY excited to see develop with our team!
LaQuan Williams- Williams is a player that I am THRILLED about. He is a Marylander through and through. He was born in Baltimore and he played his college ball at Maryland!
His playing abilities are ones that any team would love to have! He is a very athletic kid who also played basketball in high-school and averaged 20.0 points a game for Poly. He is quick on his feet and he has a knack for running routes to perfection. He was invited to Ravens camp after he went undrafted. Impressing the Ravens coaches big time by his athleticism and work ethic, he made the 53 man roster. If Williams gets his chance to be on the field a decent amount this season, I would keep an eye on him as he could provide the spark the Ravens need!
Tandon Doss- Doss and Williams have two completely opposite stories. Williams had a mediocre college career and barely made the team. Tandon Doss SHINED in his college time at Indiana and was drafted in the 4th round by the Ravens. Doss, a 6-2 playmaker, proved at Indiana University that he has the ability to be a great NFL player. His senior year, he averaged 175.8 all-purpose yards PER GAME! These numbers jumped out on the stat sheet to the Ravens and Joe Flacco. Flacco told the organization that he wanted Doss which led to him being selected in the Draft.
As a Hoosier, Doss not only played WR but played an interesting role in the running game and he was used as a return specialist.
We have a gem in Tandon Doss and we must use him in an efficient way. The Ravens have a track record for not using players enough. I can only hope that Cam Cameron has in mind what he wants to do with Doss. With his ability to play all over the field, he could be used in a great way to help Flacco and Co. drive down field.
Pernell McPhee- One spot that the Ravens need to add more depth in is obviously the defensive line. However there might just be one player that makes a run for a starting spot on that D Line. Watch out for Pernell McPhee! McPhee, A dynamic player out of Mississippi State, has to be someone that the coaches are looking at very heavily. In his rookie campaign, he recorded 6 sacks and forced a fumble in a limited amount of playing time. At 6-3 280, he is quick on his feet and always seems to be around the ball and make big plays! Coach John Harbaugh described McPhee as “explosive” and that is exactly what he has shown. He gets off the line very quick and eyes down the QB on every passing play.
Just imagine the speed of McPhee and Suggs, and the athleticism of Haloti Ngata all on the same line. Wow… good luck opposing QB’s… good luck!
