OWINGS MILLS — The Baltimore Ravens are among the NFL teams that have made inquiries about Carson Newman linebacker and supplemental draft prospect Larry Lumpkin, according to his agent.
Lumpkin works out for scouts Wednesday at Alma Bryant High School in his hometown of Irvington, Ala.
The supplemental draft is Thursday.
Besides the Ravens, the other teams that Lumpkin’s agent, Chris Martin, has spoken with or expects to attend the workout includes: the Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Houston Texans.
The 6-foot, 240-pounder has run the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds, bench pressing 225 pounds 30 times and registered a 36-inch vertical leap.
Lumpkin is projected a later-round draft target or a priority free agent.
Lumpkin recorded 96 tackles, 10 for losses last season at Carson-Newman after transferring from Alabama A&M.
He was named first-team All-South Atlantic Conference.
However, his former position coach at Alabama A&M said that Lumpkin missed practices and was late for meetings.
"Larry is a tremendous young man and extremely talented player who has winning DNA," Martin said. "Despite having some missteps in his past, this kid has grown up, learned and matured from his experiences and is ready for the NFL."
NOTE: The Ravens weren’t among the teams that attended former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon’s private workout Tuesday at the Houston Texans’ training facility.
Gordon ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds in front of 21 NFL teams.
Although Gordon has a history of off-field problems, he’s the top supplemental draft prospect and could go anywhere between the second round and fourth round Thursday.
