Lombardi's Way We bid a fond farewell to a friend

Back in 2005 I introduced myself to the Carroll County Times Ravens beat reporter Aaron Wilson during training camp. Like most of you, I learned to appreciate his insight, accuracy and attention to detail as a co-host of his Saturday football show on WNST.

During that initial conversation I asked Aaron if there might be some way for us to work together. I believed that the high level of credibility he carried could help raise the credibility of Ravens24x7.com. Fortunately Aaron and I were able to strike upon an arrangement that has worked well for both of us during 7 plus Ravens’ seasons.

Aaron understands the game. He has a work ethic second to none and he is as tenacious and relentless at his job as Mike McCrary once was with his. It’s safe to say that Aaron’s body of work put the Carroll County Times on the map.

And now those efforts have been rewarded. Today it was announced that Aaron will perform those same duties for The Baltimore Sun. When Aaron told me about this nearly a couple of weeks ago, my response was, “Well it’s about time.”

All of us at 24×7 are happy for Aaron for this very deserving career upgrade.

However the move does carry with it some collateral damage for 24×7. The Sun will not allow Aaron to provide us with the beat coverage we’ve enjoyed for seven seasons. I suppose we’ll just adopt the Ravens’ "Next Man Up" approach but replacing AW is like the Ravens replacing Terrell Suggs. It’s not easy.

Thanks Aaron for the thousands of posts we’ve enjoyed over the years. The Sun just landed a star free agent and we wish you the very best.

Here’s to your future. You never know when our professional paths may cross again.
