Street Talk Ben Roethlisberger declared OUT against Ravens

Posted in Street Talk

NFL Insider Jay Glazer likely interrupted his morning workout to tweet the news that Ben Roethlisberger has already been ruled OUT for the Steelers’ upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens. Roethlisberger was driven into the ground by Justin Houston and Tamba Hali, injuring his throwing shoulder during the third-quarter of the Steelers 16-13 overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Aside from a forfeit, Roethlisberger’s injury comes as the best possible news for the Ravens as they prepare to take on the Steelers in two of their next three games.

The Steelers have never beaten the Ravens without Roethlisberger; through his first eight years in the NFL, Roethlisberger has had to sit out four games against the Ravens.

Byron Leftwich becomes the Steelers starting quarterback in relief of Roethlisberger. During the overtime victory on Monday night, Leftwich completed seven passes on 14 attempts for 73 yards. However, the win came at the hands of the Pittsburgh defense, as linebacker Lawrence Timmons intercepted a Matt Cassel pass, returning it 23 yards to the Chiefs’ 5-yard line to set up a chip shot field goal for Shaun Suisham.

The early line for Las Vegas sports books had the Ravens as five-point underdogs but news of Roethlisberger’s absense has swung the line to the Ravens as three-point favorites.
