Remember when the Ravens drafted Haloti Ngata as their first-round pick before the season? Although he was highly coveted by the Baltimore brass, he wasn’t the only player they had their eye on near the top of the draft.

Safety Michael Huff was billed as a blue-chip safety coming out of Texas. At the time, the Ravens needed a safety alongside of Ed Reed. They also needed a young corner that could eventually fill the shoes of Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle. Huff was someone the front office liked a lot and was definitely under consideration.

For the Ravens, destiny played its hand and the Raiders took Huff with the seventh pick and they ended up with Ngata. Now, with Huff coming into town for a visit this week, there is a distinct possibility that the team could have both defenders in the fold.

Huff is an intriguing option for the Ravens. For much of his career in Oakland, he had to flip flop between cornerback and safety. When he’s had a chance to play at free safety, especially in the latter stages of his career, he’s been an impact player. It would make sense that Huff is kept at free safety, and he could be a viable fit in the Ravens’ system…
