Leading up to the draft we heard a lot of talk that teams were interested in Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o. The Minnesota Vikings loved him, but they better trade above the Chicago Bears because he’s not getting past them at 20. Even the Baltimore Ravens raved about Te’o during their pre-draft press conference.
I tried to tell people that press conference has been called the “liars luncheon” for years but people wanted to take Ozzie and company at their word. All of this talking was, in the end, just talk.
I have been saying on my radio show for weeks that I wanted no part of Te’o. I think he’s a good football player, and I hope he has a fine career with the San Diego Chargers (drafted 2nd round 38 overall). I personally have trouble trusting him after the whole “dead girlfriend” incident. Either he is one of the dumbest people on the planet to get duped like this, or he was in in it and liked the attention.
Either way I can’t trust him.
I said I’d rather take a player like Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree. A kid who has his share of off the field red flags, but they are the red flags we understand. I’m not saying I have no problem with what he’s done but I can mentally grasp it. The NFL agreed. Ogletree was drafted in the first round.
Personally I’d rather have Arthur Brown than Te’o anyway.
