To provide a safer environment for the public and significantly expedite fan entry into M&T Bank Stadium, the Baltimore Ravens announced today an NFL policy that limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into the stadium.

The NFL Committee on Stadium Security in May unanimously recommended the implementation of this measure that will enhance public safety and make it easier for fans to gain access in all stadiums. It was discussed with all clubs at the May league meeting and will be implemented at all NFL stadiums beginning with preseason games.

The Ravens strongly encourage fans to not bring any type of bags, but outlined today what is permissible. Fans will be able to carry the following style and size bag, package or container at stadium plaza areas, stadium gates, or when approaching queue lines of fans awaiting entry into the stadium:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.” (Official NFL team logo clear plastic tote bags are available through club merchandise outlets or at nflshop.com), or
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc-type bag or similar).
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage of any kind, seat cushions, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.

“Our focus is safety at our games, and this new policy helps that,” Ravens president Dick Cass said. “Plus, with the use of clear bags, entering our stadium will be faster and more convenient.”

Ravens fans will continue to be able to enjoy their tailgate activities in the parking lots and to do so with greater safety and the knowledge that their entry into the stadium will be smoother and faster.

In recent years the Ravens have enhanced their already comprehensive safety plans with the additional measures such as pat-downs, bag checks and metal detectors.

“Our fans deserve to be in a safe and secure environment,” said Jeffrey Miller, NFL vice president and chief security officer. “Public safety is our top priority. This will make the job of checking items much more efficient and effective.  We will be able to deliver a better and quicker experience at the gates and also provide a safer environment.”

This public safety measure is being successfully used at other large venues. The University of Michigan, Penn State University and Michigan State University do not permit any bags, while the TD Garden in Boston only permits clutch bags.

Working personnel, including media, will continue to enter NFL stadiums through designated gates where they will be subject to screening and bag inspections already in effect at all stadiums.

Will the Ravens buy back my PSL's? I hope I can still bring in the ticket.

Johnebravo -- they hand check all bags as it is...a backpack bomb wouldn't make it through current security measures. This is, like the overarching trend right now, a gross overreach in the name of "public safety." Have to laugh out loud on the spin in the announcement...and, whew, so relieved that I'll be able to BUY an officially approved bag licensed by the NFL. I have always traveled light to games - carrying just the variety of clutch that is permitted. But I don't feel as though that should be a requirement.

Everyone must remember that the Boston Marathon Bombing was carried out using knapsacks. I would much rather saccrifice the use of large bags for the safety of everyone attending the game.

No seat cushions? Really? Mine are NFL licensed Ravens seat cushions that I purchase at the stadium, now I can't take them in? How ridiculous!

Right. Soon they will say you have to have pants with no pockets. I also guess in the winter you will not be permitted to wear coats as that would be to much to check.

just another reason to not go to games.....keep it up and you will have empty stadiums. I think folks would much rather relax with a six pack in front of a 55 inch television than go through all the hassles that are being brought upon the paying customers to get into a stadium. I was at an O's game recently and watched as a woman had her purse contents examined IN DETAIL as she entered the stadium. Huge invasion of privacy. I was embarrassed for her that about 50 people got to see the stuff she carried around in her purse.

The purse policy is ridicilous! This policy was obviously created by men who have never had to carry multiple sanitary napkins and tampons along with their car keys and wallet. Nor do they take into consideration parents bringing kids to the games. Kids need stuff - hand wipes, tissues, medicines (son has to travel with allergy meds), etc. I understand the why, but a clutch the size of a hand? Really? This will make it very difficult for many fans to enjoy a game comfortably.

I presume there is no sexual discrimination over the sex of the person carrying the bags . . . right!?

I guess my wife will never go to another Ravens game. Her purse is way too big. I LOVE THIS NEW POLICY!!!

THANK YOU!!! It's about time!!! I've been fighting for years to carry a CLEAR bag that allowed me to take a jacket, sweatshirt, rain gear, or whatever else that was legal without it having to sit in beersoaked peanut shells!

I agree. Rather stay home with all those hassles. It's all about money with them. As you can see in their statement..."Official NFL team logo clear plastic tote bags are available through club merchandise outlets or at nflshop.com". Total BS. I am disabled to a point & with all the hassles you go through I sold my PSL's after the season. Easier to sit at home & watch it on my big screen like you said. Let all the young college drunks with their pants half down with their asses hanging out go to the games & puke all over the place like I saw last year.

There is an entrance for people who have larger bags to carry medically necessary items. If you think you qualify, go to that entrance. If you don't qualify, don't bring the bags to the game.
