He may not be a Raven any more, but Brendon Ayanbadejo will always be a part of the Super Bowl XLVII family. Speaking of family, Ayanbadejo recently took to social media to announce that his son, Amadeus Prime, had underwent a successful open heart procedure and is currently recovering in ICU.

From Ayanbadejo’s Facebook page:

He suffered from a ASD, which is a small hole in his heart. He also had to have a couple veins rerouted, which is normal with this congenital heart defect. The pericardium (a sack that the hear sits in) was used as organic material for his two patches. For the first time in his life, his hear is working with 100% efficiency. Titanium wires will anchor his chest plate back together making it stronger than any human’s [heart] could normally be.

In the not so distant past, doctors would have not found this defect until someone was 25 years old instead of two. A enlarged heartand wet lungs would prevoke examination. By then, the damage potentially already would have been done to the heart and lungs. ASD’s occur in about 1% of the population.

By finding the ASD while Amadeus was a baby and repairing it, the doctors more than doubled his life expectancy. Thank you Dr. Taslimi & Dr. Burke, real life heroes! Because of you, my son will go on to live a long, strong & healthy life.

This certainly is great news for Ayanbadejo, who disclosed his son’s condition prior to the Super Bowl. At the time, Ayanbadejo told Y! sports, “Really, nothing else is important.”

As young Amadeus recovers, Ravens Nation can only wish Ayanbadejo and his family the best. During one of the highest and most memorable points of his life, it’s a shame that Ayanbadejo had to have such a dark cloud of doubt hanging over him. Hopefully now, they can enjoy all of the success within the family, as a family.

Amadeus Prime... usually the crazy names just get an eyeroll from me but this time it just strikes me as fun, easy to break down to a simpe nickname and great name for an adorable little fighter. Good luck to you little one!

I am so happy to read that he underwent a successful open heart procedure. Hopefully, people in their comments keep politics out of their responses.
