Every Sunday, we cheer on our favorite football team as they play hard to try and win a championship for their city. However, too many times we relate what they do to what our military is doing and has done. We use words like “fight”, “battle”, “trenches” to describe what they are doing. We talk about players as if they are “warriors” and “hero’s”.
My hero is my Dad. My Dad served our country in the US Coast Guard during Vietnam. He spent his time patrolling the river in the jungles. He took time away from his family to battle for our country, to make this a safer place to live. He is a true warrior and he will forever be my hero.
Today, as we thank all those who have fought and are fighting to keep us safe, let’s keep the words we use to describe our favorite football players in perspective. We enjoy watching them compete, but they will never compare with those who put their lives on the line for you and for me.
THANK YOU VETERANS!
