Street Talk Torrey Defends Flacco For Not Working With WRs Yet

Posted in Street Talk

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is always under scrutiny, even after winning a Super Bowl and throwing for 11 touchdowns and no interceptions during a torrid 2012 playoff run. The scrutiny comes with his six-year $120.6 million contract, and the position he plays. It certainly comes after an 8-8 season in which Flacco threw 22 interceptions.

Teammate Torrey Smith recently defended Flacco, who has been criticized for not holding private offseason throwing sessions with receivers yet. Flacco and several receivers plan to meet within the next two weeks. But Smith said trying to coordinate schedules with enough receivers has been challenging.

“You all (in the media) keep talking about this and (criticizing) Joe like he doesn’t want to get together or something like that,” Smith told the team’s website, baltimoreravens.com, at his charity basketball game on Saturday.

“We’ve been trying to figure it out, but people have to realize, (Kyle Juszczyk) is in school, Marlon (Brown) is in school. Steve (Smith) is still being a parent down there (North Carolina). (Dennis) Pitta is fine. Aaron (Mellette) isn’t all the way back yet. If we really go out there and throw, it’s going to be Steve, Pitta, and Jacoby (Jones). That’s it.”
