Don’t hold your breath waiting for inside linebacker Rolando McClain’s return to the Ravens.
According to NFL Network, McClain showed up late for a Tuesday workout with the Ravens, and failed to complete the team’s conditioning test. Not the best way for McClain to show he is ready to make a comeback, after walking away from the game last year at age 24.
McClain said earlier this month that he was training to make a comeback. The No. 8 pick in the 2010 draft, McClain had 246 tackles and 6 ½ sacks in three seasons with the Raiders before being released last year. He signed with the Ravens, but never participated in a single practice before deciding to retire.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh has left the door open for McClain’s return, but Harbaugh also said McClain would have to prove himself. The Ravens re-signed inside linebacker Daryl Smith, but the other starting spot at inside linebacker is open. Jameel McClain signed with the Giants during free agency, leaving Arthur Brown and Josh Bynes to compete for a starting role opposite Smith.
The Ravens still hold Rolando McClain’s rights. But right now, McClain is apparently not ready to make a return.
