The Ravens wrapped up their 2014 draft (or so we thought) with the selection of Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning with the 194th overall pick.

During the owners meetings in March that took place in Orlando, Florida, the Ravens put current back-up quarterback on notice saying the team could possibly take a quarterback in the upcoming draft.

“Well, you know, Tyrod’s only got one year left on his contract,” Harbaugh told reporters. “We’ve been very happy with Tyrod, and we feel like he has a great future, but we have been a little disappointed how he’s played in games certainly,” Harbaugh stated.

“We feel like he’s a lot better than he’s showed. I know he feels that way too.”

Wenning is a project and one who is ready to compete.

“I think I’m a good competitor with a good skill set at the quarterback position,” Wenning stated in his conference call to the media.

“I’m not going to come in and try to beat out Joe Flacco. He’s the starter; he’s the man. I feel like he is a great quarterback that I can learn from. I feel like I can come in and push [and] try to make other guys around me better.”

An astute player who owns Ball State’s career records for touchdowns passes (92), passing yards (11,402), pass completions (1,035) and pass attempts (1,642) is ready to learn from quarterback Joe Flacco.

“I think it’s a great opportunity. Not everybody gets that opportunity to play behind a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I’m going to take full advantage of.”

While Wenning was unsure where he would end up being drafted or who would select him he did think Baltimore was a potential landing spot.

“Yes, talking with them and taking my visit there, it was a great visit,” Wenning excitingly responded.

“Meeting with the coaches and the front office personnel, it was great. I knew it was a possible chance, and I’m thankful that they took a pick on me.”

Things should certainly be interesting once the team gathers and ota’s begin where the competition begins between Taylor and Wenning, and one that will be fun to watch over the Summer.
