Urban Tears His ACL

Camp Notes Urban Tears His ACL

Posted in Camp Notes

Several veterans were given the day off on defense as the Ravens held an early morning practice at the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills including Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata.

One player who did however play what seemed like every snap on both the first team defense and second team defense was linebacker Elvis Dumervil.  Dumervil did make some nice plays and found himself in the second team offense’s backfield on more than one occasion.

With neither Suggs nor Daryl Smith (groin) in attendance on Thursday,  the combination of Dumervil, Mosley and Josh Bynes was interesting to watch. With Dumervil being double teamed on some plays, rookie C.J. Mosley was once again able to shine.

Other Notes & Observations

Second year linebacker Arthur Brown continued to take snaps with the second team defense. Brown had 3 passes defensed on the day and showed his athleticism in covering tight ends Owen Daniels and Dennis Pitta.

Asa Jackson continued to start opposite of Jimmy Smith with the first team defense while Lardarius Webb once again missed practice. The increased reps is certainly helping Jackson as he was decent in pass defense and run support.

Linebacker/special teamer Albert McClellan had his worst day of practice particularly in pass defense. Throughout what seemed like the entire morning, McClellan was beat on intermediate routes.

Newly signed cornerback Marrio Norman made his presence known on defense and special teams. Norman took reps with the third team and enjoyed a solid day against the wide receivers. On special teams, Norman blew past opposing blockers to make at least 3 would-be tackles (no pads today).

Head coach John Harbaugh announced after practice that rookie defensive end Brent Urban suffered a clean tear to his ACL with no timetable to return.

Injuries

Rookie defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan who was injured on the same play as Urban missed practice due to back spasms.
