The Baltimore Ravens and the House of Ruth Maryland have launched a three-year community partnership, the team and House of Ruth Maryland announced on Thursday.

The partnership hope to raise awareness by educating players and front office staff to be able to recognize the signs of abuse, understand how to respond, and know where to go for support.

Per the House of Ruth Maryland press release,

Over the next three years, the Baltimore Ravens will donate $600,000 to the House of Ruth Maryland towards this effort. In addition, the team will participate in a variety of House of Ruth Maryland educational programs including workshops focusing on intimate partner violence in the workplace, and abuse intervention programs which aim to increase the safety of victims of intimate partner violence by holding batterers accountable and teaching non-violent relationship skills.  Players and staff will also participate in numerous House of Ruth Maryland “Man Up!” events throughout the campaign.

It’s all about education.

“The Ravens recognize the outstanding service the House of Ruth Maryland provides to our community and we want to help increase its influence,” said Baltimore Ravens President Dick Cass in the press release.

“We also look forward to the education the House of Ruth Maryland will provide to members of our organization.”

The public may view this as an admission that the Ravens should have done more when it comes to domestic violence, but hindsight is always 20/20. Credit the Ravens for trying to further their knowledge about domestic abuse in the wake of Ray Rice’s offseason incident with his fiancee.

Good to hear. House of Ruth/My Sisters' Place is an unimpeachable organization. I hope they give Mr. and Mrs. Rice personal opportunity for atonement through service. He needs it now more than ever after Goodell threw him under the bus retroactively. Funny how [presumed] knowledge of "all the details" led Goodell to be relatively lenient in defining an appropriate response until a shitstorm of bad PR had the League change its mind.
