The Factory of Sadness

It must be miserable to be a fan of the Cleveland Browns. They are never in the playoffs, their head coaching position is a revolving door and the only thing in that town that is more wasted than first round picks is Johnny Manziel. Cleveland is where quarterbacks go to die.

Over the course of the last 10 NFL Drafts the Cleveland Browns have had 12 first round picks. Some have been excellent picks –€“ Joe Thomas, Alex Mack and Joe Haden come to mind. But whenever the Browns decide to make a play for a franchise quarterback, the results are disastrous.

In 2007 the Browns moved back into the first round to select Brady Quinn with the 22nd overall pick. The Ravens gave some consideration to moving up from No. 29 that year to select the Golden Domer. Thankfully Ozzie Newsome snapped out of his Brian Billick induced quarterback intoxication.

In 2012 the Browns picked Brandon Weeden with the 22nd overall pick and then in 2014, once again with the No. 22 pick in the NFL Draft, the Browns selected Johnny Manziel.

Those three quarterbacks combined to produce 8,683 yards and 40 touchdown passes. Their combined passer rating is 71.0. To put that in perspective, Kyle Boller’s passer rating as a Raven was 71.9.

Essentially the Browns drafted three Kyle Bollers.

No wonder they call Browns Stadium The Factory of Sadness.

Thankfully this bumbling franchise resides in the AFC North.
