Teams have party drug concerns with Bosa. Upshaw visits the Jets. We look at an incomplete opinion on Weddle’s and Flacco’s deals. Vikings fans aren’t happy with Wallace’s comments. Chargers fans gave Weddle a long goodbye. Harbaugh says Wallace gives the Ravens the speed they need.
Teams Have Hard Party Drug Concerns with Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott
According to Charlie Campbell of Walter Football, Noah Spence may not have been the only top Ohio State player with hard party drug concerns. Multiple teams are concerned that both DE Joey Bosa and RB Ezekiel Elliott have engaged in that type of drug use. Bosa refused to take a drug test, which counted as a positive and resulted in a 1-game suspension. He said that he would have tested positive for adderall, which would have been fine. The word is that he has ADHD, so failing a test for a medication would have been forgiven by most NFL teams.
But now, insiders believe he would have tested positive for MDMA (the active ingredient in “Molly” and Ecstasy), a popular drug at raves and music festivals. That is the same drug with which Noah Spence said he battled an addiction.
Ravens linebacker Courtney Upshaw visiting the Jets
According to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, Courtney Upshaw is visiting with the Jets. It would be good news for the Ravens if he ends up signing with them. It would return a 3rd-round compensatory pick. They lost that pick, which was a result of Kelechi Osemele signing with the Raiders, when they signed Eric Weddle. They’ll get it back because Upshaw will cancel out that signing.
Weddle and Flacco’s contract will hurt Ravens’ future
This is one of those articles written by an author who clearly reached his conclusion before collecting all the necessary data. Justin Ruoff of Today’s Pigskin makes an incomplete assessment when he says Flacco’s deal “essentially made the Weddle signing a possibility.” That ignores that the restructures of Smith, Arrington, and Yanda were more instrumental in making it happen. He also seems to think Weddle’s deal takes up a large portion of the 2016 Cap. I’d consider his $3.75M figure very reasonable.
Mike Wallace rips Teddy Bridgewater in Ravens presser
Dan Zinkski of the Viking Age has some choice words for Mike Wallace. If you missed it on Tuesday, Wallace said, “When the process started I knew I wasn’t going back to Minnesota. I was like, I need a good quarterback. I need a quarterback who I know is proven, who can get things done.” From our perspective, that seems like praise of Flacco.
From Minnesota’s perspective, however, it looks like a slight toward Teddy Bridgewater. I can certainly understand why that statement would ruffle feathers with Vikings fans, but I can imagine why Wallace wouldn’t have the Vikings’ feelings in mind after being cut by them.
Long goodbye: Weddle, fans share the love
Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune tells the story of Eric Weddle’s last home game back in December. He knew he wouldn’t be back with the Chargers, and he took well over an hour to say goodbye to as many fans as possible. They love him in San Diego. I know we’ll love him here, too.
Harbaugh says Wallace will help Ravens address need for speed
Clifton Brown of CSN Mid-Atlantic discusses Harbaugh’s comments regarding the signing of Mike Wallace. He says he could help bring Breshad Perriman along. Obviously, health will be a huge part of the equation. Hopefully, all the pieces come together.
