Q Should Not be in The Ravens Queue

The former Ravens receiver is a fan favorite and deservedly so, but he should not be given a second tour of duty in Baltimore. The Ravens should just say no to Anquan Boldin.

We learned today that Breshad Perriman would not have to undergo reconstructive surgery on his right knee according to the world famous orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Instead Perriman received a stem cell injection to stimulate the natural healing process and he’s expected to be ready by the start of the 2016 season.

Given his track record it would surprise no one if there isn’t some sort of setback, yet there’s no denying the news was an emotional lift for the promising wide receiver who has weathered a ton of adversity over the last 2 years.

Despite his availability some still believe that the Ravens should bring Anquan Boldin back into the nest.

But why?

At this point in his career Q, who will turn 36 on October 3, is about as fast as a slow linebacker. He doesn’t provide anything that the Ravens don’t already have in the forms of Steve Smith, Sr. and Kamar Aiken.

Yes I said it – Kamar Aiken.

Aiken is coming off a season during which he hauled in 75 passes for 944 yards and 5 scores. And keep in mind he was without Joe Flacco for the last 6 games of 2015. Aiken is a tough receiver who fearlessly navigates between the hash marks and possesses strong hands enabling him to make contested catches.

Sounds a bit like Boldin doesn’t it?

Oh and by the way, during Boldin’s best season in Baltimore he had 65 catches for 921 yards and 4 TD’s, a stat line that falls a tad short of Aiken’s 75/944/5.

I get the emotional attachment to Boldin. That’s how Baltimoreans are wired. Sure Q stepped up in a huge way during the playoffs and Super Bowl during the 2012 season. But in 2016 he’ll be 4 seasons removed from those memories.

That was then. This is now and now is about Aiken and the other younger receivers anxious to establish themselves in the NFL.

Not a soon-to-be 36-year-old plodder who might struggle to outrun JJ Hardy.
