A. Brown “Has Improved Light Years” From Last Year

Arthur Brown Warm ups

OWINGS MILLS — At least outside the Baltimore Ravens’ organization, Arthur Brown is kind of like the forgotten man at inside linebacker.

Daryl Smith is all but set in stone as a starter at one inside linebacker spot. First-round pick C.J. Mosley is probably the early favorite to start at the other. But Brown, the Ravens’ second-round pick last year, is making an early case for playing time as well.

“Art Brown has improved light years from a year ago – light years,” Baltimore defensive coordinator Dean Pees said after an organized team activity practice Tuesday. “This guy has really had a great camp. He still has a moment like all of them do, but he is so improved from a year ago. I’m really, really excited about him.”

Brown did not play much of a role as a rookie last season.

He was slowed by sports hernia surgery during the offseason, ended up being just a situational player during the regular season and finished the year with just 15 tackles.

But he has said he is more comfortable within the defense than he was as a rookie last season.

“I feel a lot further along,” Brown said earlier this offseason. “There was so much coming into this team from college that I did not know when it came to the defense. It was a whole new system that I had to learn, and I really had to take it all in.

“But after being here for one whole season, I can see how far I’ve come since the beginning.”

He is also a little bigger than he was last season.
