About Kris Jones

Kris Jones

Kris - or "Goob" as he's widely known - has turned an obsession into a career. As a media member by day and super fan by night, he reports from the Under Armour Performance Center twice per week and brings Ravens news from a fan's perspective. His popular YouTube series Goobvision propelled his career and notoriety amongst Ravens fans, even helping him win the 2010 nationwide DIRECTV Ultimate Displaced Fan contest. He's been featured on shows such as The Jim Rome Show, ProFootballTalk Live, The Sirius XM Blitz with Rich Gannon and Adam Schein, Sirius XM's MadDog Radio, The Michael Irvin Show, Tony Bruno Show, Two Live Stews and FoxSports.com to name a few (or is that a lot?). He's caught a touchdown pass from Warren Moon during a flag football game and hates the Pittsburgh Steelers more than anyone else on the face of the earth. Twitter: RavenManiac

Could another team steal RFA Dennis Pitta away?

Pitta TD SBXLVII
With the recent acquisitions of pass rushing specialist Elvis Dumervil and safety Michael Huff, the collective panic level of Ravens Nation has subsided a bit. The 2013 draft is less than a month away (April 25) and the roller coaster ride is in mid-climb – but could the “sky is falling” mentality set in once again with a major downfall potentially approaching? Tight end Dennis Pitta’s future (and his income level) remains the only major question surrounding the Ravens prior to the draft. Pitta was given a second-round tender by … Continue reading

Huff starting his own legacy, not following in Reed’s footsteps

huffravens
Michael Huff was in Baltimore Thursday, becoming more acclimated with the place he’ll call home during football season. Huff underwent a physical by Ravens team doctors, was later cleared and signed his three-year, $6 million contract to be the newest free safety for the franchise – a position that has caused many turnovers but hasn’t had any itself over the past 11 years. To expect Huff to fill the shoes of the recently departed Ed Reed isn’t fair, but that won’t stop Huff from trying his hardest. “For me to … Continue reading

John Harbaugh comments on moving on from Super Bowl defense

harbsatparade
The changing of the landscape of the Ravens defense if evident with the moves the team has made since the start of the free agency period two weeks ago. While much of the fan base was panicking prior to the signing of Elvis Dumervil, head coach John Harbaugh admitted that much of the turnover is by design. At his introductory press conference at the Under Armour Performance Center, Dumervil was accompanied on stage by Harbaugh, who answered questions about the state of the Ravens defense prior to the NFL Draft … Continue reading

Dumervil on fax fiasco: It’s not what happens, it’s how you respond

krisdum
Circumstances leading to Elvis Dumervil’s release from the Denver Broncos that put him on the free agent market can be labeled “strange” at best. Though it may seem to many that even e-mail is outdated these days, the NFL – along with many other multi-billion dollar organizations – is still relying on fax machines to conduct business. As a deadline approached which would have guaranteed Dumervil his full base salary of $12 million in 2013, paperwork confirming his previously agreed upon $4 million reduction in salary wasn’t filed in time. … Continue reading

Elvis Dumervil is first in new wave of free agent recruitment for Ravens

dum58
Making a major splash in free agency isn’t the usual modus operandi of the Baltimore Ravens. General Manager Ozzie Newsome’s motto of “right player, right price” has proven effective as the Ravens have most recently won a Super Bowl Championship, a perfect ending to five-straight playoff appearances. If the Ravens ever found themselves competing for the services of a big-name player, they’ve always had an ace up their sleeve with legendary linebacker Ray Lewis – a luxury they no longer have. After a fax machine snafu led to the release of … Continue reading

One Steeler is glad Anquan Boldin is gone

clarkboldin
When the Ravens traded Anquan Boldin to the 49ers for a sixth-round pick, fans in San Francisco weren’t the only ones excited to see the wide receiver move on from his time in Baltimore. Earlier this morning on NFL AM, Steelers safety Ryan Clark expressed his delight to not have to face Boldin twice per year as a member of the AFC North. As Clark was asked about Boldin, he jokingly replied, “I’m not upset about it at all; I think it was a very good move for the Baltimore … Continue reading

Wanted: Locker Room Leadership

suggsheadslap
Pardon the interruption, but I’m going to get personal for a moment. For those familiar with my act as “Goob” the Ravens super fan – in real life, I’m somewhat different. At times, I find myself cracking a smile or laughing at the good fortunes that I’ve been blessed to have. I realize I’m living a dream, I realize that if had a career change, a black friday-esque line would form around our brand new company offices for a shot at doing what I do. Humility is key, and as … Continue reading

Ladies and gentlemen, will Elvis (Dumervil) enter the building?

dumervil
Over the last few weeks, the Baltimore Ravens front office has made it clear that they’re changing the identity of the team that just helped them win a Super Bowl. Ray Lewis’ retirement, the trade of wide receiver Anquan Boldin and release of safety Bernard Pollard has freed the Ravens locker room of many of  vocal leaders that once occupied it. Safety Ed Reed’s future with the team still remains in doubt, but if the Ravens have proven one thing it’s that their Super Bowl-winning head coach, John Harbaugh, will … Continue reading

Jacoby Jones starts “Dancing With The Stars” tonight

jacobydwts
Plenty of perks have come to Ravens players and coaches with the franchise winning Super Bowl XLVII last month. No player, perhaps, has capitalized on the increased spotlight like wide receiver Jacoby Jones. One year ago, Jones was an outcast in Houston as a member of the Texans and ultimately found himself unemployed. The Ravens signed Jones to a two-year, $7 million contract in May and his hard work during the Ravens’ championship season has paid off. During the Super Bowl, the world caught a glimpse of the absolute goof … Continue reading

Recent evidence suggests Ed Reed likely doesn’t fit Ravens’ future plans

reedlombardi
The emotional roller coaster that is football fandom has essentially been in free-fall since the high of winning Super Bowl XLVII for most Ravens faithful. On the heels of Joe Flacco’s record-breaking contract, most fans were aware that re-signing all of the team’s free-agents wasn’t possible – but they didn’t know it would turn out like this. Anquan Boldin was traded, Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe are in their new cities swimming in cash, and Bernard Pollard has suddenly found himself unemployed. Saying goodbye is difficult to any significant contributor … Continue reading

Ravens re-sign James Ihedigbo

Ihedigbo
The Ravens have re-signed backup safety James Ihedigbo to a one-year deal per the Baltimore Sun. During 2012, Ihedigbo combined for 19 tackles and had a highlight reel sack of Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich during the middle of the season. Ihedigbo primarily contributed on special teams, but the six-year undrafted veteran filled in nicely for strong safety Bernard Pollard, as he nursed multiple injuries to his chest and ribs. Retaining the 29-year old Ihedigbo is a smart decision for the Ravens as he contributed more than originally expected after being … Continue reading

Torrey Smith talks about the loss of Anquan Boldin

torreyquan
Within an hour of the news breaking that Anquan Boldin had been traded to the San Francisco 49ers, Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was at a “Purple” carpet event celebrating the release of the NFL Films DVD from the Ravens championship season, which ended with a Super Bowl XLVII victory last month. The event was loud and as Smith met with the media, he was asked about losing his teammate. For Smith, Boldin was more than just a teammate and complementary player on the field, he was like an older … Continue reading

Ray Lewis: Relaxing and soaking up the moment

Ray Lewis Sidelines
On Monday, Ray Lewis made his first public appearance in Baltimore since doing his patented squirrel dance with the Lombardi Trophy in front of 90,000+ screaming fans at M&T Bank Stadium during the Ravens victory parade. The image of Lewis walking out of the tunnel one last time was all any Ravens fan could have asked for when they heard of Lewis’ intentions to retire after the postseason. Lewis stretched his career out as long as possible, and while the Ravens are preparing for life without Lewis, the greatest linebacker … Continue reading

Bad things happen in threes, so what’s next?

davidreed
They saying goes, “bad things happen in threes.” Much to the dismay of many in the Ravens fan base, the team has already made two very unpopular moves within 24 hours. The moves are causing many to question the possibility of the Super Bowl champions pulling a repeat performance even before the the league year officially begins this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. On Monday, the Ravens traded wide receiver (and fan favorite) Anquan Boldin to San Francisco in exchange for a 6th-round pick. Now the team has resigned special teams … Continue reading

Boldin Reaction: It’s time to step off the ledge

boldincatchcolts
As expected, the news of Anquan Boldin’s name not being on the Ravens’ 2013 roster has the fan base up in arms. They’re not happy with general manager Ozzie Newsome’s decision to trade away a fan favorite and a key component to the Ravens Super Bowl-winning formula. While a large contingency of the fan base is ready to jump from the Bay Bridge, humor me for a few moments while I talk you down from the ledge and get you ready for the future state of the Baltimore Ravens. First … Continue reading

Three Ravens’ Restricted Free Agents receive tenders

art jones SB copy
It was a busy afternoon for the Ravens front office on Monday. After trading wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers, the Ravens placed tenders on half of their restricted free agents. Of the six players eligible, tight end Dennis Pitta would receive the most attention on the open market and the Ravens have tendered him with that thought in mind. According to the Baltimore Sun, Pitta was given a second-round tender, paying him a fully guaranteed $2.02 million for 2013. The fourth-round pick in the 2010 draft … Continue reading

Counterpoint: Letting Boldin walk isn’t as bad as it seems

boldin
Tony Lombardi says the Ravens need to bring Q back. Here’s another take. I know what I’m about to write won’t be the popular opinion in Baltimore but all I ask is that you hear me out. Earlier today, USA Today reported that Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin had rejected an offer to reduce his salary and will likely be released before the start of Tuesday’s free agency period. Without a doubt, the Ravens wouldn’t have hoisted the Lombardi trophy last month without his efforts, but clearly his $7.531 million … Continue reading

Potential Cap Casualty – Brendon Ayanbadejo

ayanbadejo
After signing Joe Flacco to a record $120.6 million contract extension, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome will begin to search under every sofa cushion at the Under Armour Performance Center for loose change in an attempt to position his team for another Super Bowl run. For Flacco’s contract to not handcuff the franchise in other areas of need, Newsome will have to replace veteran players for more cost-effective and younger options. Unfortunately for special teams ace/linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, he may be one of the players at the top of Newsome’s … Continue reading

Ravens will increase ticket prices by 10%

m&tbankstadium2
Steve Bisciotti isn’t the only one who will have to pay more money to watch Joe Flacco play in Baltimore next season and beyond – season ticket holders will be doing the same. As reported earlier today by the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens will be increasing their ticket prices by an average of 10%. The increase marks the first time the Ravens have raised ticket prices since the start of the 2009 season. “We are thoughtful and detailed in our study of our ticket prices,” senior vice president for public … Continue reading

Breaking down the Ravens’ options with Joe Flacco’s contract

joeart
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens and Joe Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, will meet this week at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in an attempt to sign the Super Bowl XLVII MVP to a long-term contract. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome finds himself in a rare situation as he and the team have no leverage during negotiations. According to Newsome, Flacco turned down a top-five contract prior to the start of the 2012 season, a gamble by Flacco that clearly paid off. Flacco hit a trifecta … Continue reading
