Broncos Get Revenge, Win 49-27

Denver Broncos vs. Baltimore Ravens

DENVER – Calling this an ugly opener for the Ravens would be kind. The start of the game was delayed by lightning. Then Peyton Manning lit up the Ravens, throwing seven TD passes for the first time in his career and becoming just the sixth player in NFL history to do so.

The 49 points surrendered by Baltimore are the most ever in the franchise’s history.

Game recap: The Broncos took control with 21 consecutive third-quarter points, turning a 17-14 deficit into a 35-17 lead. Peyton Manning was brilliant with 462 yards and those seven touchdown passes, and the Ravens’ offense fizzled in the second half. It was a particularly tough game for the Ravens’ tight ends. Dallas Clark dropped what would have been a TD catch just before halftime, and Ed Dickson failed to corral at least three catchable balls.

The Ravens were even worse defensively, as Manning picked apart the Ravens’ secondary. Safety Michael Huff had a poor tackling performance, and it may not be long until rookie Matt Elam is a starter. The struggles of cornerback Jimmy Smith continued – picked on frequently during the second half.

Key moment: A blocked punt by David Bruton of the Broncos in the third quarter changed the game’s momentum for good. It was the first blocked punt against the Ravens since 2009, and it came deep in Baltimore’s territory. Ravens rookie linebacker Arthur Brown appeared to miss the block that allowed Bruton to get penetration. Denver recovered at the Ravens’ 10-yard-line, setting up a Manning to Wes Welker five-yard TD pass. That put the Broncos ahead, 28-17, and the Ravens were in the process of unraveling.

Injury front: Not good for the Ravens. No. 2 wide receiver and return specialist Jacoby Jones left in the second quarter with a sprained knee. Trying to make a fair catch, Jones was plowed into by rookie teammate Brynden Trawick, who mistakenly blasted Jones to the ground as if he played for the Broncos. Jones never returned, and his status for Week 2 was not immediately known

Starting right tackle Michael Oher suffered a sprained ankle in the second quarter and did not return. Fifth-round rookie Rick Wagner replaced Oher, but the Ravens’ offensive line play suffered. The Ravens lack offensive line depth, and losing Oher for any amount of time would be costly.

Harbs extended…had 2 years left on his previous deal… Should have happened after this season…needed to see how he can coach w/ lot of changeover… needs to get better with clock management needs to fire people not 3 years late and needs to not have a mutiny and needs to play his best players and not let his ego get in the way…7 million is too much

THINGS WERE STACKED AGAISNT THEM…HAVING SAID THAT THAT WAS AN ABSOLuTELY DISGUSTINg PERFORMANCE TONITE

THANX HARBAUGH FOR NOT CHALLENGING A WES WELKER DROP THAT CLEARLY HIT DA GROUND…7 MILLION DOLLARS WE GAVE HIM..,HARBS COST US THAT TOUCHDOWN (NBC DID SHOW THE REPLAY AND THE ARROGANCE TO NOT SAY HE MESSED UP)…the fact that harbaugh and his guys upstairs were unaware of a potential challenge there until his pr guy kevin byrne had to tell him makes it even worse…HE DIDN’T HAVE THEM READY TO PLAY AND LADARIUS WEBB SHOULDN’T BE RETURNING PUNTS EVEN IF HE HAS TO JUST FAIR CATCH DA BALL.

TIGHT ENDS: CHARTED 8-10 DROPS: ED DICKSON CANT CATCH AND DALLAS CLARK CANT RUN…DROPPED A POTENTIAL TD AT DA END OF DA 1ST HALF…DALLAS CLARK LOOKED LIKE HE WAS 75 YEARS OLD!

THE SECONDARY SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED BY WHAT THEY PUT ON FILM…JULIUS THOMAS ABUSED MICHAEL HUFF ….COREY GRAHAM AND JIMMY SMITH ALSO GOT ABUSED…MATT ELAM HAS TO START FROM HERE ON OUT MOVING FORWARD

    DUMB PERSONAL FOUL PENALTIES

As far as the 2 Flacco picks the 1st one was an incredible play by harris and the second one is on him

Couldn’t run the ball at all

With injuries being what they are in that sport, Joe Flacco and Ray Rice should not be in da game down 22 points with 2:47 left

    Overall grade Game 1: D-

RELAX !!!!! It is one game of 16. Sure Clark should not be a Raven, however we never thought Pitta would be on IR. I sure hope they made Brynden Trawick WALK home this morning.

The good… Jones proved himself again to be the SOLID 2 we need. Also Brown looked great playing against a solid defense. And for the first time in year I was pissed Oher was not on the LINE. Oher was playing at a high level until he was injured and ended up out of the game.

AGAIN !!! RELAX 15 more games to go! If next week goes this same way then we have a real issue that will need to be addressed. WE ARE STILL THE ONLY CURRENT SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS

I agree with you , there are 15 games left but aren’t you concerned about the receiver , corner and O-line depth,,,,,,,,,Ozzie way over valued these three areas , that should concern you as the next 15 games could be ugly,,,,,,,,,,,,

      • Rumor Ray on said:

At corner we still improved over last season since Webb is back. O-Line depth is an issue however I just hope the backups really never need to play much. As I said before this was the first time I was sorry to see Oher not in the game. WR is fine as Torrey and Jacoby proved to be solid #1 and #2 last night. Losing Jones for the 2nd half hurt however we got to see Brown step up and play well. Next week we should sit Stokley and bring in Millette. TE is the issue and the loss of Pitta is hurting us more then anything right now. Clark should have never needed to be a Raven. Dickson has proven to me that he can not be a go to guy when needed and should not be on the field.

I agree with you very much , I also say the corners are over valued,,,,let’s wait till they see the Cinn. and Atlanta receivers before we make a solid evaluation ,,,,,,, maybe I’m saying this wrong , I’m upset at the entire secondary , the current set of corners can’t handle true NFL receivers without decent safety help and last night they didn’;t get it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry for the extended reply , I’m really upset…………….

Jimmy I am upset too. Today I show up at work in PA dealing with the Stiller Fans and all I could do was clean my Replica Lombardi Trophy and say … Well Last Year We Lost To Denver Once Too !!! LOL

Ravens fans yesterday is yesterday….what happen in Denver is history,,,,time to move on…Clark needs to sit,and the tight end from Maryland should be on the 53 man roster…Dickerson timing was off with Flacco and as far as the secondary is concern well time will tell if they will jell…
