Door Is Open For Ray Lewis To Return In 2012

The Ravens made corresponding roster moves to fill spaces vacated by Lardarius Webb and Ray Lewis after Sunday’s 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Webb’s season came to an end after the Ravens placed him on Injured Reserve. Coach John Harbaugh announced during his press conference today that Webb will have surgery no later than tomorrow on his torn left ACL.
Bobby Rainey was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.
Today, he’ll undergo surgery to repair his torn triceps and Harbaugh announced that Lewis be placed on the newest Injured Reserve designation, which allows players to be reactivated to the active roster after missing a minimum of six weeks.
Lewis will do whatever is necessary to make a return to the field in 2012 and help his team potentially reach the Super Bowl. He’ll be eligible for return no earlier than the Ravens Week 12 matchup versus the San Diego Chargers.
Just because Lewis is able to return doesn’t mean he will.
Lewis’ return will depend on how well his body responds to surgery and rehabilitation. Even though he’s in great shape, Lewis’ body has had plenty of wear and tear on it after the majority of his life has been spent on the football field.
To fill Lewis’ roster space, the Ravens elevated linebacker Josh Bynes from the practice squad to the active roster. Bynes was signed as an undrafted free agent last season but was only promoted for last year Thanksgiving night game. He was inactive for that game and eventually released.
Linebacker Nigel Carr and Jordan Mabin were signed to fill out the practice squad. Both Carr and Mabin were signed by the Ravens as undrafted free agents in the offseason but released before the end of training camp.
