Let the games begin!
On a side note this pre game stuff is complete garbage.
Can a brother get some analysis or something rather than a damn concert?
I guess not.
Here's to Shitsburgh starting 0-1

It's unreal how much pre game crap goes on with this game now. At least there is a college game on to bridge the gap.
Clemson getting smacked around. Shocker. Paul Johnson has himself a team.

Then GT faked a FG or Punt and threw a long TD.

HA! Jen took a 19 yard sack. Hope to see more of that this season. Fin escape artist.

Once again, it's amazing how much alike Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed are...don't throw it near them, idiots!
If he ever hits FA, I don't care who we have on this team, we should throw ridiculous money at him. To have him and Ed Reed in the same D backfield...gives me the goosebumps.
Wow. That ball hung up there for Troy to pick it.ba

looks like maybe we should've let the Steelers have opening night against us.
If we, with the momentum we have coming out of preseason, meet this team, I think we snap their win streak against us.
I'm fearful that they'll turn it around by the time we meet them midseason.

We need receivers to make catches over the middle like Holmes just did. Yea I hate the Squeelers, but after last year, I finally respect the talent of a few of them.

and the thing is, our DL is better than the titans. by a pretty good margin too, i'm thinking. the only reason i could see them having more success against the stoolers OL is they are penetrating, undersized guys. we have more stoppers, especially on the interior of the line that don't do as much in the passing game.

When our DL/LB gets pressure on Ben, we need to sack his ass. Ben makes his biggest plays against us when our rusher/s whiff. Everyone loves that hit Bart put on Ben in 2006, but I sure remember about 2-3 really bad sack whiffs he had on Ben, too. I have always said that you don't come at him like a bat out of hell b/c he is uncanny at eluding those unabated rushers. You track him, and wrap up well. You may not get the sack, but help will come soon to finish him off.
I respect Ben a lot for this. I ask what QB would do this well with a below average OL like the Steelers.

he looked good pretty much all game, but you just CAN NOT drop 7-8 guys into zone coverage on jen at the end of a game. everyone is tired, the holes in the zone are bigger, he is not a good qb, but he is clutch. rex did it too, so it's not like this guy is alone.

The Titans DC is absolutely clueless. The Steelers moved the ball at will in the 4th quarter and OT, and he changes NOTHING. No blitzes, no extra players, just terrible zone coverage.
The Titans get decent pressure from the front 4 - but the Steelers OL is terrible. Their secondary is abysmal.
The Steelers can't run the ball. If Polamalu is out for any extended period - they are screwed defensively. The secondary is quite weak otherwise. They're lucky that they seem to have a horseshoe up their ass.
Quite frankly, as composed - neither of these teams scare me right now. That's not to say they can't improve - but I feel better about the Ravens chances now than I did before this game.

Cecil was known for his thunderous tackling and aggressive style during his time as a safety for the Packers (1988-1992), Cardinals (1993) and Oilers (1995), and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl and garnered All-Madden status in 1992 when he recorded four interceptions and 102 tackles on the season. In 95 career games he totaled 400 tackles and 16 interceptions.
Cecil is regarded as among the most vicious hitters in National Football League history. Chuck Cecil was featured on the October 11, 1993 issue of Sports Illustrated with the question: "Is Chuck Cecil Too Vicious for the NFL?"[7] Many photos taken of Cecil during games showed him with a bloodied nose.
During much of his career, Cecil was forced to wear a "Gazoo Helmet"; a helmet so named because it resembled the head of The Great Gazoo, a recurring character in The Flintstones animated series. The "Gazoo helmet" is actually a thick padding that fits on a helmet's shell to reduce the risk of receiving a concussion and reducing the risk of injury to opponents due to helmet-first hits, for which Chuck Cecil was fined numerous times. Despite the additional protection, recurring concussions forced Chuck Cecil into retirement.

Maybe he led with his helmet one too many times.
Tennessee left points on the field and didn't take advantage of getting some calls in the first half.
We've seen what happens time and time again when you do that vs Pittsburgh.

They were stuffing the run so badly the Steelers gave up on even trying.
The 4 man rush would have worked if they just played some bump and run behind it.
I counted 1 blitz down the stretch.

And what happened on that ONE blitz?
They flushed Jen and got in his face and forced him to dump the ball incomplete.

I still like how the Titans matched up and how we also should if we still have the DL and DB depth.
The Titans have a lot of good D players, but I would only see 31, 33, 53 and 93 getting starting pt on this D. I really think our back up DL is comparable to the starting one that dominated the Steeler front but wore down in the 4th.

Horrible game plan from Tennessee in the 2nd half. We WILL beat Pitt this year, probably twice. Our 4 man rush will be far better than the Titan's, not to mention our blitz packages. Pitt's line is worse than last year, and Ben cannot make miracles happen every week.
Post game, Ben just said that the game was "Baltimore-esque" physically. He ain't seen nothin' yet.

If we can get anything out of Kruger, you are 100% right Ben ain't seen nothin yet. How scary would that be, a five man rush of Kruger, Pryce, Ngata, Gregg, and Suggs?
WHY THE F ARE WE PLAYING THEM SO LATE IN THE SEASON! I want to whoop their asses this month. We are definitely going to beat them barring any major injuries.

Sucks that the Queerlers pulled it out. Kind of puts us in a bad spot since they got the Titans and we got the Colts. Makes beating Peyton and company (which we haven't done since like Clinton was President) all that much more important. And to make matters worse, Pitt gets Miami and we get New England, yeah that's fair

I have not seen anything yet that makes me believe that Ben CANNOT make a miracle happen every week. Let's take the purple shades off, here, guys, and recognize that this guy is Extremely tough to beat, anywhere, anytime - period! The Ravens are going to have to be on their A+ game to beat the Stillers twice this coming season.

Big Ben is an extremely annoying opponent not because he's particularly accurate or strong but because he stays up in the backfield so long it's only a matter of time before someone gets open. One of the plays that irritates me the most is when Ben drops back, sees no one open, runs around like a ballerina, then finds the TE wide open because he's not blocking anymore.
The way the Titans played defense really reminded me of the our own defense when we were always killed in the end of the game because of our prevent defense (cf. Ravens-Pats). I really hope Mattison changes things, otherwise it means we can't play with a lead

Purple shades or not, I think everyone can agree that Ben is pretty damn good. But one of these days that golden, diamond studded horseshoe is going to come dislodged from his a$$. While all of the inbreds are celebrating today, I think alot of other teams and fans are realizing that their might be too many holes in the Steeler dike for Ben to plug with his fat fingers this year.

The Stillers won the SB last year with a great D, and Ben. Based on last night's performance, nothing seems to have changed, at least for this year.

The D goes from great to just good without Troy P patrolling the entire turf.
Even while he was out there making every play the Titans were able to move the ball on the ground and air, protect the Qb and move the chains. They failed to finish the 1st 2 drives, but they were driving a lot early and often.
I did not like the adjustments at all, but the inititial gameplan should have given the Titans a 10-0 lead.
I do not think the Steeers look as dangerous and complete as the Giants did before they lost Plax or NE in 2007 or the Ravens in 2006 and right now.

True; but Troy will be back within 6 weeks. During that time the Steelers have, what I consider, 3 gimmes - bungals, lions, clowns) - and 3 reasonably tough opponents -chargers(H),bears,vikings(H). The Steelers should be able to handle all of these opponents without Troy P. And Ben makes this team dangerous all of the time.

I would be suprised if they go 6-0 through that. 4-2 or 5-1 maybe, but Troy makes a huge difference. Go back and look at the last time he missed games.
They showed me less than nothing in the run game, and although they once again found a way to come out on top, it really looked like the Titans were the better team to me.

The Titans were definitely the better team last night, imo. However, the Titans don't seem to know how to win critical contests, as evidenced by last year's loss to the Ravens in the playoffs. The Stillers, and specifically, Ben, know how to win, period, and because of that I can't see them losing any of those six teams. They had the toughest schedule last year and only suffered 4 losses; in fact, they should've beaten both the G-men and the Dolts, two of their four losses.

okay, i am hoping i hear this wrong, but somebody please let me know if this was actually said on espn:
"wow, ben roethlisberger with a huge game. there is no way i can see that guy not being in the MVP race. he is truly one of the elite quarterbacks in this league...his pump fake is so impressive and realistic and can move any defense..."
was i watching the same game as this douche???

They had a lot of close wins that could have gone the other way too.
I agree they are very good, but mostly because they are just so tough and clutch, not because they are dominant. I like our matchups a lot when healthy and can see SD and maybe one of the other teams knocking them off, getting up by 2 scores in the 4th so Ben can not pull another rabbit out of his backside.

Speaking of ESPN quotes, did anyone hear Collingsworth state that he saw Hines Ward KNOCK out Reed in one of the Ravens games last year? I know I'm getting hard of hearing, but I thought I heard that stated towards the end of last night's game.

Yes he said that and along with it he said that Ed Reed was looking right at Ward when he did it. Like Ward has ever hit anyone when they are looking at him...

Yeah I heard it. As he was fellating Ward about how "mad" he was in laying blocks after the fumble. I'm sure he was talking about the debacle in Shittsburgh from 2007 that got Bart the Mouth talking about bounties.

The way Cris C. went on and on about Troy P last night, coupled with that statement, could one infer that he is promoting Troy P above Ed Reed in the all-safety category? Or is it just an anti-Ravens thing? I know, I should not speculate about such things, conspiracy theorist that I am.

No it was a "I know that the Stealers have one of the largest fanbases and every one is watching,so let me get on my knees whenever possible so I appeal to the masses" attitude.
No different than a politician.
Polamalu is great WHEN he is on the field, but far too often he is not out there. It does not matter because he could play in 2 games and get all the Pro Bowl and media fawning over him anyway, and be put in the same breathe as Reed who destroys the Hair if you compare their careers.

Our small band are aiming to get every week one game up prior to any week two games (six day week for me).
Look out for our grading of the Ravens Chiefs game to go up (hopefully) by the end of Friday. We won't get every game done every week still this season unfortunately but we'll work to get as damned close as possible.

If we can generate and interior passrush this year I like us getting up in the Hamburglar's grill. And like I was saying at the end of last season, maybe this time our passrushers can break down use body control and grasp him, not run past like a headless chicken because they lost balance in anticipation of the big hit.
Also, if you're strong at the point of attack, the Steelers O-line can't runblock for shit. 38 year old Kevin Mawae was plain beating Hampton into position.

Huh? I don't see what one statement has to do with the other, but I did notice the lack of a running game the Stoolers had, though not for lack of trying.

Sorry, just finished watching the game, it's past midnight and I'm not that coherent. I should really read my posts before pressing submit.
I really don't understand why the Steelers have set about locking up, what looks to be, a mediocre O-line (perhaps being a big charitable). They weren't dealing with blitzes well, and they had no push in the run game. For all Super Ben's mobility he's still going to get creamed on a weekly basis, and without a run game he'll faulter at some point. Granted that Titans D-line is good, but still... what the crap was that?
It also seemed to me that a good O-line was occupying that Steelers defensive front rather well. Like I said, Mawae was getting across Hampton's face, the guards seemed to get some push, there were some rushing lanes for the Titans and I hope that bodes well for us.
The first quarter - I'm calling the the Steelers' "Lolcat" offense - was hilarious. The play where Mendenhall ran into Ben cracked me up. The Left guard was right and trapped someone, Mendy took off on a straight line like he was anticipating Ben would peel off to the left on the handoff, he'd get the ball behind the centre and cut up through the hole the Right Guard vacated (I think he was going second level). That was probably the second most amusing thing in the game (the first obviously being Ward's fumble).
I don't see why the Steelers don't just run no huddle all the time, from my recollection it seemed to be the only time they were that effective.

Also loved how Hamburglar tried to blame Holmes for one of his interceptions, which was just a plain badly thrown ball.
