Shit. 3-3 going into the bye, with our defense giving up play after play after play.
The defense let Joe Flacco and the offense down today. And Hauschka put the icing on the cake by hooking the ball.
If they were gonna run it with Rice at the end there.....they should have told him to get to the middle of the field.

Now all we are going to hear all week is about Matt Stover! Nobody's perfect--give the guy a chance.
OriAl
10-18-2009, 03:24 PM
Did anyone think he'd make it? I didn't. That's why you keep Stover. Pathetic.
Defense can't stop Favre after we score. We no longer block field goals.
We simply cannot win close games. Blow late leads, and don't score when behind.
If Cameron plays offense in the first half, and defense plays, we win. Three straight gaes given away.

I expected him to make it. What a come back...I give them credit for not giving up and come back like that. Yes it hurts like a mother but they way ot started I thought we'd be blown out.
And for all the Stover talk that's going to happen I wish people would shut it.

Well... 12 guys on the team. The entire defense and Hauschka.
I'm not asking for Stover....I just wish Rice would have just gotten to the middle of the field, that way he's at least straight on....

The offense laid it all on the field.Flacco left it all on the field.
The young kicker blew the young offensive guns valiant effort.
Another gut ripper. But they showed heart coming back.
They showed will.
looks like this season is going to be an exciting but painful ride.

It is so hard for me to fathom how a QB that throws for 385 yards and 2 TD's, and has a QB rating of 109.15 loses that game.
Oh yeah, when the opposing QB throws for 3 TD's and 278 yards himself because our fucking secondary cannot cover a twin size bed, and our run defense has been left somewhere in Cleveland.
I'm so frustrated right now.

I agree we played well, but Cam really dropped the ball with the play calling at the very end. Run Rice for 2 yards then let the clock run down? A pressure filled 46 yard kick in a loud ass stadium is tough, even for a veteran like Stover. I feel like the Rice play should have been a 10 yard pass or so and made the kick more reasonable. Mason owns the sideline routes, why not try that? I just can't believe we ran Rice on that 2nd down.

What killer instinct? The offense took the lead, and it took the defense ONE play to allow Favre to get a bomb into field goal range and blow the lead. Close losses are losses.

I got to say this loss was very very tough but I feel alot better about this teams future then I did in the first half. The offense and D showed alot of heart. Moreso the offense. I think we need to apply more pressure for sure but this offense showed they can stay with anyone. I just wish they offense had opened up a little earlier then they did. I said before they have to pass to open up the run but first 3 quarters they ran ran pass. And eventually pas pas run which opened the run up good. Tough loss but we got the BYE. Lets regroup and get this party started.

Why on earth is Frank Walker covering Sidney Rice one on one on their last drive?

I'm gonna get chewed out, but I hated the settling on the long field goal. ther ewas time to rattle off another pass, even if it only gained a few yards it could have made a difference.
Oh well. Ifs and buts. That's a heartbreaker.
I want to have Joe Flacco's children.

The bottom line is we would all be happy right now if the kicker makes that kick. The offense and defense played like dog shit for a good part of the game, but they did what they needed to do to give us a chance to win in the end.
The 3 and out before the last TD was clutch by the D, the offense was clutch the whole fourth quarter. The only member of the team that is not a football player lost this game for us. You can go back and say the D played like shit and the O was bad in the first half, but that would all be a moot point if the kicker does his ONE job and makes that kick. It's disgusting.

I wouldn't "chew you out", but I think the playcall was fine. The only pass you really could have done was into the endzone with little time left. And why risk an interception in the endzone?
If the defense hadn't given up 33 points, we would have won.

With 20 seconds left they had more than enough time to complete a short/intermediate pass then spike the ball. You figure most plays take 6-9 seconds, even if they are slow to spike it they would have still had a few seconds left.

No, I agree, I think another 7-10 yard sideline pass with 12 seconds left would have been a better play. But you expect your kicker to make a 44 yarder. No excuses.
This is a tough pill to swallow going into the bye. Super tough. But what Joe Flacco and Ray Rice did today won't be forgotten.
But hey, look at where we are. It isn't an unclimbable mountain. We're 1 game out of 1st in the division. The Bengals have holes, the Steelers have holes, and so do we. And we have 3 games left against those guys.
I'll say it - we will come out of the bye and stomp the Broncos. I really believe that.

It was 46. On the left side of the hash. On the road, in a huge game. I'm not saying it's a guarantee miss but a kick like that is tough for any kicker in the NFL.

I agree, he was getting his ass kicked the whole game and kept coming back for more. The way he beat the blitz at the end of the game was a thing of beauty, we've never had a QB who can beat the blitz like that.
Sephy
10-18-2009, 03:51 PM
Agreed. Flacco's ability to handle the blitz is so much improved this season. That will be huge against the Steelers.
As a note: Sidney Rice had 176 yards on his own today. Wow.
There's a serious chance both the Bengals and Steelers lose next week. bengals have a tough game vs the Bears, and the Steelers take on the Vikes. Then they both have byes.
If we come out and beat Denver, it could be on for a battle all season long.

I'm not upset about the ravens loss. It gives me hope. They were out of this game within the first 9 minutes, but made an incredible comeback and showed incredible pose.
Sure, they coulda made one more heave or had ray rice run up the middle to center the ball, but it shouldn't even have come to that. Brett Favre did what Brett Favre does. Perhaps it was because, after the bengals game, I no longer consider the ravens a good team so i don't see this as a heartbreaking loss, but a big moral victory. They looked terrible against the Bengals, but looked really good against the Vikings. The Vikings are a better team and should have won, but it shouldn't have been this close, it was and for that I'm happy.
Now, could all of this be because I was able to watch the game sans pants, in my bed, probably. Regardless, I feel a lot better after this game than I do the Bengals. Go Ravens.

I think they'll be OK rolling coverage to Marshall. Gaffney doesn't scare me at all. And they don't have a back as talented as Peterson.
And the QB is still Kyle Orton. Credit for how well he's played to this point, but no one has really challenged him. Though if our secondary plays as it has to this point, we won't either. But I think Flacco beats that defense soundly if he steers clear of Bailey.

WOW! On another board I thought this would be the game of the year for my Vikings! Talk about an understatement!
Kudos to the Ravens for not giving up and you guys are lucky to have Joe Flacco as your QB! I always liked him at Delaware and he will bring your team a Championship for sure!

I think that is the key...we lost, but we played up against another big team.
Two of our losses were hard fought game against BIG teams...take out the loss to the Bengals, and I think the Ravens have shown their offense can rank with the biggest out there in terms of toughness. Our D might not be the same type of unit from years past, but I think we can stand up against some of the better offense in the league...We need to work on not bending as much as we do, but I don't see any major problems, especially with our pass rush beginning to come around.
Remember, during the SB run, we went 5 games without a TD. We pulled out of it and we can still pull out of this.

What's wrong with Webb? They keep Carr as nickel (why I don't know) and for some reason let walker get a penalty time after time. Why isn't Webb in the lineup as the 4th cb?
