My guess is that whichever team has the ball first will set the tempo for this game. Conversely, whoever has the ball last will probably win this game.
I swear, if this team comes out and plays like they did against Green Bay a few Monday nights ago, I'm gonna blow a gasket!

Hello folks. Will be available for PBP today since no one is in the area.
Lets rock and roll! LETS GOOOO!

Dude its a 1PM start , I'm feeling like that kind of play is reserved for prime time.

Ok guys, here we go. You can say "Mathmatically, yada yada", but we know what is at stake here. This is a "win or go home" for the Ravens. I'm calling this a must-win.
Dan Fouts may have said it best. Pittsburgh better be ready for a big bowl of Rice!
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:02 PM
Crowd still mighty thin in the upper deck, and plenty of seats in the lower bowl. Hmm.

12-27-2009, 12:03 PM
Steelers receive, Logan returns near the 30.

hey, I just saw Rothlisberger being friend with suggs. I want Blood! ;)
Sephy

From the 28.
1st, Ben gets pressure immediately up the middle, chased, throws away.
2nd, slant to Ward for 11 and a first. safety covering him didn't cover that route.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:06 PM
1st, Mendenhall stays up for awhile, but only gets 2 or 3. Good concentration. Carr came in late trying for a strip.
2nd and 7, Mendenhall gets a big hole through the middle and gets 7. Foster blocked Ellerbe well.
StingerNLG
12-27-2009, 12:06 PM
Ok, this is not enouraging to start with.,
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:07 PM
1st, straight drop, another comeback to Ward for another first down. Gotta cover those short routes on him.
Raveninwoodlawn
12-27-2009, 12:07 PM
We haven't even forced them to 3rd down yet.
StingerNLG
12-27-2009, 12:08 PM
Nice hustle by Kelly Gregg there.
RavenScallywag
12-27-2009, 12:08 PM
i'm not worried yet...the key is we're making them tough it out. short routes, tough runs...make them earn every inch. We'll adjust...
RavenScallywag
12-27-2009, 12:09 PM
and there you go...no score.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:09 PM
1st from the Ravens 38, Mendenhall bottled up, bounces right, and ends up losing 1. Ngata held on the play - no call.
2nd and 11, PA, Kruger held approaching Ben, steps up, overthrows Mendenhall.
3rd and 11, Ravens bring a big blitz, doesn't hit, but overthrows Wallace who had very soundly beaten Walker. Ben is beating himself, so far.
Fair catch by Carr at the 12-13.
We'll take that!! Roethlisberger looks off today!?! :ww:
Here we go offense. Joe, Ray go down and get a TD.
StingerNLG
12-27-2009, 12:09 PM
Oh thank goodness. Frank Walker was beat yet again by a receiver.
So lets see. So far Chris Carr and Frank Walker are playing exactly as you figure they would. The Steelers let that one go.
I'd love to see a bomb here...
Irishraven
12-27-2009, 12:12 PM
Man, quick bomb or a 8 min drive resulting in a TD - I'll take whatever
Flipping Birdie
12-27-2009, 12:13 PM
Well, that's not a good start.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:13 PM
Ravens are in all white for the first time in the Harbs era, I think.
1st, tight formation, give to Rice going right for 1.
2nd and 9, PA, Flacco throws to Mason who had slipped and watched the pass go out of bounds from the ground.
3rd and 9, shotgun, Flacco drops, is hit as he throws and the ball goes like a duck by Woodley - Farrior intercepts and returns inside the red zone. SHIT.
Wow...tipped and Intercepted.
RavenScallywag
12-27-2009, 12:13 PM
oh shit...ok, NOW we're in trouble.

Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:16 PM
1st from the 8, Mendenhall stopped after a half yard.
2nd and goal, 7.5, Ravens only rush 3, Ben has forever, drops to Mendenhall who just drops a TD. Lucky.
3rd and goal, Barnes jumps, gets back, Ben snaps the ball thinking he would get a flag, goes endzone and well defended by Foxworth. No flag thrown. Foxworth shoulda had that pick!
Reed hits the easy FG, 3-0. The "Ravers" defense held. Enberg :grbac:
darb72
12-27-2009, 12:16 PM
Foxworth makes a good play in the end-zone to break up the TD. He's been playing better the last couple of weeks, along with the rest of our defense.
StingerNLG
12-27-2009, 12:16 PM
Wow!! And Dominique Foxworth with the defense!! Go Foxy!!
The Steelers are beating themselves right now. That should have been a TD.
Ok, we get away down only three. How about we try this again?
I'll take 3 but Foxworth should've had that pick!
BArellano
12-27-2009, 12:17 PM
This is not encouraging considering that Ben has missed 2 wide open receivers and Mendenhall dropped an easy TD catch.
Raveninwoodlawn
12-27-2009, 12:17 PM
Oniel Cousins has some of the worst technique I've ever seen.
On that 3rd down play, he just lowered his head immediately and lounged at Woodley who just ran him over and threw him out of the way. Never extended his arms to get a good punch.
He has been doing that ever since he came into the league.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:17 PM
Lucky that wasn't 7. Gotta protect on that right side better. Cousins can't afford weak plays in pass pro against an edge rushing team like the Steelers.

12-27-2009, 12:18 PM
Parmele deep, and runs smack into a Steeler around the 20.

Not a terrible return. He needs to not run right into the defender though.

Why doesn't Flacco learn to step up in the pocket when he is being pressured? Doesn't he feel the pocket collapsing around him? That interception was all on him.

2nd, Rice for 1 or 2 straight up the middle and met in the hole.
3rd and about 8, shotgun, Flacco steps up, hits an open Mason for about 13. Mase over 11k in his career.
RavenScallywag
12-27-2009, 12:23 PM
Mason just topped 11000 yard receiving.
Nice job!

Yes, but if Flacco stepped forward Woodley would have run behind him and not got his arm.
Cousins got beat, but Flacco COULD have saved that by stepping into the pocket.
Come on DWill!! He was open!
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:26 PM
1st, Rice fighting through defensive penetration, gets 1. Not good blocking by the front for the Ravens right now.
2nd and 9, excellent hole in the middle proving me wrong, Rice quickly hits for 7-8 yards.
3rd and a short 2, Flacco throws outside of D-Will. Cundiff will come on. DAMNIT. Perfect opportunity.
27 yarder - down the middle. 3-3 game.

I put that on DWill....
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:27 PM
Can't really tell if there was QB/WR confusion on that play, or if it was a bad throw. Remember Harbs last week said that D-Will was still lining up incorrectly. Still, either way, a huge chance missed. Hope we don't regret that.

Yes, but if Flacco stepped forward Woodley would have run behind him and not got his arm.

You mean while his arm was cocked and going forward? Not every sack is the QB's fault. Cousins got beat like a rented mule.

1st, PA, penetration by Bannan to slow Ben, then Ngata gets him for a technical not sack. Half yard forward.
2nd, Ben runs around, in the grasp and just throws up a ball and Wallace somehow catched it. Wounded duck. Unbelievable.
1st, delayed draw to Parker gets 13 and a first. Fuck me.
darb72
12-27-2009, 12:34 PM
How freaking lucky can the Squeelers be? Oh wait, Frank Walker on the coverage. I can complete passes to Stinger with Mr. Soft-zone covering.
And Gregg with the sack.
RavenScallywag
12-27-2009, 12:34 PM
NGATA! That is a SACK!
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:34 PM
The Steelers are the luckiest goddamn team in football.
1st from the 22, Mendenhall through the middle for 2. At least Jax and Miami are losing.
2nd and 8, Ben SACKED BY NGATA!!! He just pushed his man back and powered into Ben!! Big loss!
BArellano
12-27-2009, 12:34 PM

What was that about the luckiest team in football... Reed just squeezes in the FG by about 3 inches.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:36 PM
God Enberg is clueless. He said Gregg got the sack, then once he realized it was Ngata, he backtracks and said Gregg did the work but Ngata finished. Gregg was on the LT, about 5 yards away from the play the entire time locked up.
3rd and 16, complete to Miller, back to the 20. FG team on. Pittsburgh wasn't even trying to complete a first down pass there.
Its good. 6-3 Steelers.
Lee Van Cleef
12-27-2009, 12:37 PM
Okay, am I being dense, are offensive players allowed to block defenders in the back? I swear I saw a WR blocking a Ravens DB in the back on that first down run.
We can't let this game stay close. The offense has got to get a TD on the next possession.
BTW Ngata owns Mendenhall.

Oh fucking come on!! This is UGLY!
And Cousins with the false start.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:40 PM
1st from the 23, nice pickup by Rice on the blitz, pass for Mason sails OOB. Flacco had to throw off his back foot.
2nd and 10, PA, and Flacco throws to Rice's feet trying to evade the rush. Incomplete. Not a good start from Joe.
3rd, empty shotgun, Cousins false starts. He has such a ridiculous form, lol.
3rd and 15, give up draw to Rice only gets about 3 or 4. Punt team on.
I'm sorry but the playcalling is lacking IMO....
Stumpy
12-27-2009, 12:41 PM
3rd and 15 and we run a dive... then a horrible punt...
darb72
12-27-2009, 12:41 PM
Three and out is not what we needed right there. The bad kick did not help since the Squeelers get the ball at our 43.:grbac:
Never fails. In big games the offense get off to these slow starts.
And a horrible punt by Koch great.
Why does Joe look like crap against the Stoolers?
RavenScallywag
12-27-2009, 12:42 PM
Katula bad snap again...why didn't we bench him, his play has been ALL over the place!
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:42 PM
Koch muffs the punt to the Ravens 43. Just gross. Another bad snap by Katula, though.
Looking more and more like we will need help come next week.
1st, complete on the WR screen to Holmes for about 13. That ends the 1st quarter. Horrible play in all phases!!

Special teams is just terrible today. And the OL is just killing us.

And a horrible punt by Koch great.
I'd actually like to see a no-huddle...gets the team in a rhythm and prevents defensive subs.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:43 PM
We are lucky it is only 6-3 right now. Should be 10-3. Every phase needs to step up. Parmele isn't very good at returning kicks either, but at least he has held on thus far.
ravenwoman
12-27-2009, 12:44 PM
Hate the play calling so far. Why do we run when we have 15+ yds. to get? STUPID!

Yep. Joe seems more comfortable in the no huddle too.

12-27-2009, 12:46 PM
1st from the 30.5, Mendenhall finds a hole for 5. He hits it pretty quickly. Wasn't much there.
2nd and 5, another give, this one finds much less, Mendenhall gets only 1.
3rd and short 4, pressure comes, Ward gets thrown to, Carr doesn't even turn to look for the ball despite having good coverage, and gets a DPI flag. Carr is a goddamned idiot. TURN. THE FUCK. AROUND.
StingerNLG
12-27-2009, 12:46 PM

darb72
12-27-2009, 12:48 PM
Carr gets a PI and the Squeelers get the ball at the six. We've been fussing for years that we need a wide receiver, but we need a CB worse now. The only two I bring back from this season is Foxworth and the rookie.
And the Squeelers score a TD. This game is probably over since Harbs coaches scared against the them.
Raveninwoodlawn
12-27-2009, 12:48 PM

12-27-2009, 12:48 PM
1st and goal from the 5, Mendenhall for 1-1.5 up the middle.
2nd and goal, from the 4, Mendenhall gets a hole and pokes in. TD Steelers.
13-3 Steelers. Time to man the fuck up and play some playoff type football. This shit WILL NOT CUT IT.

It's real simple. You cannot beat a good team with your backup nickel trying to play starting outside CB. But this is what the Ravens wanted to do.
Sephy
12-27-2009, 12:51 PM
Short kick gets Parmele to the 38. He isn't gonna break one, but he looks solid enough there.

12-27-2009, 12:52 PM
The lone bright spot is Parmalee is proving to be a solid returner. I wouldn't mind seeing him keep the job next year since hopefully we'll be getting rid of Carr and Webb is to important to risk on special teams... oh wait

2nd and 1, give to McClain straight through, and over Steelers for 2.5 yards.

Ravens in no huddle.
1st, Rice bounces off his initial defender for 4-5 yards.
2nd and 6, Rice again for about 5.
3rd and 1, Rice bounced off his first guy again, looked like he had an open lane to the endzone, but Carter got outside quick, and Rice is stopped at the 30.

1st, Flacco goes deep for D-Will and thrown out of the endzone. Well covered by Townsend.
2nd, Ravens immediately use a TO because of confusion. This team burns more TOs doing dumb shit than any other I have ever seen. Been that way for 10+ years!
The 'hurry up' was working...

2nd and short 7, empty backfield, Suggs shifts over to rush the middle, Edwards had a free lane but ball gets out first, thrown too high for Miller and falls incomplete.
3rd, Ben is SACKED BY BARNES!!! Way out of FG range. GREAT hold and tackle. Beat Colon soundly, was even held by the facemask.

How quickly the masses turn on Harbaugh...Coming in here never having an OC/DC job, everyone forgave that when he made the playoffs.
Now that we're not walking in so easily, he's not qualified to be an NFL coach.
EVERY NFL coach makes dumb decisions...Jack Del Rio went for 4th and 1 on his own 35...Let me repeat, they GAVE UP THE BALL when they would've had to go 65 MORE yards for a score. All John did right now was not call one of his TOs on 3rd down. If we call the TO and they still get the huge play, everyone probably calls him an idiot for letting the Steelers set up for the big play and ruining our momentum.

Not taking the timeout will go down as harbaugh's biggest blunder of the season and that is saying something. If we take the TO then Pitt probably doesn't gamble on throwing in their own endzone . They would probably have ran a draw to seat up a punt.

I kind of think we have to. I'm not gonna get on everyone's back about it because I remained sceptical through big wins against bad teams, but I think we need to score on that first drive. Whilst we're down, we've created some opportunities that could've paid dividends if the play had just been tighter.
I see chances there, and if the offense comes out a bit more fired up and ready to play, and the defense can be a bit more steady, I like our chances to come back.
