per Jason La Confera (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81a420d1/article/ravens-expected-to-place-s-reed-on-pup):
The Baltimore Ravens will place Ed Reed on the physically unable to perform list, a league source said Friday, meaning the safety will miss at least the first six games of the season.
Will our secondary suffer or prosper? I like what I have been seeing from both Zibikowski and Nakamura. We seemed to have improved in pass coverage last season when Reed was injured -- although the December schedule was weak.
Hamlin should get a year's salary from this move.

Hamlin might not even make the team. Zibby and Haruki both played well enough to fill the void.
I'm confident that Zib and Nakamura will be able to pick up the slack.
Let Ed heal up so he's 100% the second half of the season.

I think this was predictable and with the current uncertainty with the cb's, I like the certainty of Zibs back there. I would give Ed the time plus a couple weeks he needs to see IF he can actually heal fully to play.

We've had depth at safety for a few years. I expect Zibby & Nakamura both to be somewhat more disciplined than Reed, which is a good thing and a bad thing.
I'd worry much more if this was a front line CB, or OT, or pretty much anything other than safety, where we have quality depth.

Could have sworn that he would be a week one surprise, but with the depth we have and post season expectations, I see them looking towards the second half of the season. Smart move I guess.

I would be very surprised if we only kept 3 Safties. and with Haruki possibly playing some Dime is even more reason to keep the 4 Safties

Im Glad they made the right move. I couldn't imagine picturing Reed laying on the field and hearing "his career could be over," hes come close enough as is. Now give the man his film.

Similar to the way I'm not worried about Cody's injury, this is something that we can cover up easily and get a nice shot in the arm with his return.
