1 Rodgers
2 Brady
3 Brees
4 Suggs
5 Roethlisberger.

Think this might help his DPOY bid? Now that he's getting some national attention. If he keeps it up and keeps up this all around defensive dominance he's putting up, not just sacks, i honestly think its a possibility.

Good to see, but this is an overreaction to this week I would imagine. Rodgers and Brees should be 1-2, and Brady/Ben have both been great. Strange that no good RBs have emerged this year. Best case would probably be Demarco Murray, oddly enough.

Also, clearly the national media hates us!

Yeah no way he wins the MVP but if he's #3 behind 3 QBs it can only mean good things for his DPOY campaign.

Love it! No way he wins MVP but this gives him some national spotlight for DPOY. Especially since its coming from Peter King.

Who are the top rookie of the year candidates?

It's got to be something like Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, Torrey Smith, AJ Green, Aldon Smith, Von Miller, etc...in no particular order.

I think Rookie of the year will be Andy Dalton over Cam Newton and offensive rookie of the year will be Cam Newton.

Defensive rookie of the year has to be Von Miller.

Ware and Jared Allen seem to be the front runners because of their sack numbers. Allen also has 3 FF, same as Suggs, 3 recoveries and an interception. Suggs needs to pass him in sacks if he's going to win DPOY.

It's nice to see him getting so much attention. He is such a good all around player. Allen is pretty good at the run as well but not as good as Suggs. I think a lot of the attention he is getting lately is because of his personality. People are finally noticing that he has a high football IQ and he is able to articulate it in front of the camera.

This is less of a realistic assessment of Sugg's chances for MVP and more of an indication of how reactionary King is.

I doubt we hear King mention it again unless Suggs is doing this again in the spotlight of the playoffs. He'll move on to another topic. A guy who writes a six page column every week with hundreds of "things I think" tidbits isn't likely to have a very consistent view of the game.

Don't we play brownies this week??

I think the ultimate deciding factor for DPOY should be the total defensive ranking. Ware and Allen do have more sack stats...but does them no good to have a lower ranked defense. The impact of Suggs on the entire defense is what matters to me.

So there's 3 Rookie of the Year Awards? I'm pretty sure there's only 2, one for Offensive and one for Defensive, not an overall Rookie of the Year.

I agree with you but we don't get a vote. I still don't understand how Polamalu won it last year.

No kidding. How he won it over Clay Mathews has me scratching my head to this day.

he would be deserving but it ain't gonna happen.

Terrell Suggs, hybrid, Ravens: 49 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 int

Jared Allen, DE, Vikings: 48 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 int

Von Miller, LB, Broncos: 58 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

DeMarcus Ware, LB, Cowboys: 39 tackles, 14 sacks, 2 forced fumbles

voters like to see numbers. a lot of what suggs brings to the table doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

I think it should have been Harrison last year. 100 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 5 PDef, 2 INT, 6 FF. But there was no way he was going to win it with the penalties, fines, and headlines he had made throughout the year. I seriously believe that in lieu of that, the voters gave it to the next best Steeler.

Suggs is in the running this year, but as others have said, voters want to see stats. I would think it's Ware or Allen at this point.

And MVP is Rodgers, and it isn't even close.

i agree that harrison should have won it last year. ed reed had a better season than polamalu, IMO. way i see it, palamalu was the 2nd (maybe 3rd?) best player on his defense and the 2nd best safety in his division. harrison got shafted.

Agree. Polafemalu is the 4th best defensive player on the Steelers behind Harrison, Woodley, and Timmons.

Last year's DPOY should have gone to Harrison, Matthews, or maybe even John Abraham. Polamalu shouldn't have even been in the top 10 candidates. Just goes to show you how heavily biased the media is towards the Steelers.

I find it interesting that King mentions that he thinks Suggs is a DE instead of an OLB (sort of like that thread we had on that topic recently). Obviously, he is a hybrid player, but if we have to classify him, he increasingly seems more and more like a DE.

It reminds me a lot of Tim Duncan in basketball, who people mistakenly refer to as a PF (often as the greatest power forward ever). Sure Timmy started his career as a PF, but he has played center ever since David Robinson retired and people ignore this and continue to call him a power forward.

Suggs may have started out as an OLB and was used that way quite a bit under Rex. But he has since played more DE than OLB. But because of his history of playing OLB, he gets called that.
