Peyton Manning 2012 prediction - and ESPN speculation re Ravens (merged threads)
After Colts draft Andrew Luck - they will try to trade Peyton but there will be no takers (do to his contract, etc. etc - and the uncertainty regarding the injury and his recovery). Consequently, the Colt will release Manning and he will become a free agent.
Prediction: Jets will jump on this and bring Peyton to NY - in the belief that this will give the Jets one or two Superbowls - and give Mark Sanchez the opportunity to learn behind the "master"
You heard it here first.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
I think the Colts will cut Manning before the league year begins. Even if they trade Manning after paying him that $28 million roster bonus, the cap hit would be huge.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
He's gonna be a Jet. He'll be in NY with his brother to make a zillion bucks plus the Jets hired Tom Moore for a reason.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
Tom Moore was hired by the Jets last June before the Manning injury became clear.
Only difference now is he is working full time at the facility instead of working from home
He was not hired just to attract Manning if that's what you're implying
But I agree the Jets are a likely landing spot for him
Colts have to cut him and take the hit, as you say OP that contract is prohibitive to any team
But at least nowadays the days of your rookie first rounder getting over fifty million like Sam Bradford did are over, Luck's contract will be big but manageable
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
The Tom Moore thing is just coincidental.
It will be just too irresistible for the Jets - particularly after Ryan's Superbowl guarantee falls flat. It will be the Bret Farve thing all over again - thinking they can buy a Super Bowl.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
I don't think hiring Moore was a coincidence, those guys are smart. And Manning with that defense could be pretty scary; all in theory of course
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
Do an Eli Manning on it so?
This will be the biggest draft story in years
Can't wait :)
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
No idea what's going to happen. Anyone trading for Manning is taking a huge risk.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
Colts cut Peyton before his March bonus. Colts draft Luck. Peyton signs with Denver. Denver trades Tebow to Jacksonville.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
And Jacksonville remove the tarps and sellout their stadium
Everyone wins

An then reinstalls the tarps by the fifth home game because it doesn't necessarily work the same way in Jacksonville as it did in Denver.
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
Manning retires. If he wants it, he can have the Colts coaching job or a position in the front office e.g. Elway.

That would only work if the rest of the team went to Jacksonville with him...
Re: Peyton Manning 2012 prediction
The Colts don't have the talent to win a Super Bowl even if Manning comes back with full health, which is in doubt. I think they keep Luck, and if they need to get rid of Manning to do it, then I think they will.
Possible Destinations for Mannings...
Ridiculous....

4. Baltimore Ravens
Now, we get into situations where Manning would be the final piece of a championship puzzle. We've all seen the Joe Flacco experience for four seasons now; it's not working. Flacco's an average starting quarterback by just about every definition of the word. Check out his Advanced Passing stats at pro-football-reference.com; he's right around the 100 league average for his career in every statistic besides interception rate. We know how great the Ravens defense is, and they already have an offense with players that would fit Manning perfectly; Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, and Dennis Pitta are pretty good style matches for Joseph Addai, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, and Dallas Clark. (Obviously, Rice is better than Addai and Wayne is better than Boldin, but you get the idea.) The only problem is that the Ravens are always going to be up against the salary cap because of the amount of money they spend on their defense, and they already need to sign Rice to a long-term extension. They probably would not be able to afford Manning, even if he's a great fit.

Re: Possible Destinations for Mannings...
That is funny. I am sure Peyton would love to play with Ray and Ed, and there is a decent chance he hits free agency, but it is in no way a realistic scenario.
Also Flacco is by any reasonable measure an above average QB, who is now in his 4th season with the 1st 3 as succesful as could have been expected.
