Looking at their numbers this year, I don't see a compelling statistical reason to prefer Wallace:
Wallace
43 catches-539 yards-12.8 avg-6 TD's-21 1st Downs
Smith
31 catches-548 yards-17.7 avg-7 TD's-23 1st Down
So Wallace catches 1.2 more flanker screens per game that go nowhere than Torrey...

To give Lewis the benefit of the doubt, it sounds like he might have been simply saying that they deal with a vertical threat of a similar caliber in practice. He just could have worded it better. However, being a young guy, I get the feeling that he meant what he said the way he said it.
