The "Flacco Thread" (Merged from 5 threads)
Watching Drew Brees and Matt Ryan this evening has got me thinking (which is always dangerous):
1) Is Joe a top 10 QB? top 15?
2) If the answer to one of the questions above is "yes," does a franchise tag make any sense? (more of a rhetorical question)
3) What do we do if we let him test the FA market, and someone is willing to pay him "above market?"

Re: What is Joe worth?
Not this again...
Joe will get a long term contract here. I don't care if people consider him a top 10 or 15 QB. I really don't care how much he's paid. As long as it doesn't kill our salary cap. Joe will not see free agency."It is an undeniable and may I say fundamental quality of man that when faced with extinction, every alternative is preferable." —Leonard Church

Re: What is Joe worth?
Worth...less. According to some and the NFL media.
Why not - get a bargain for a QB that has the ability to win a SB - regardless if he's thought of as elite or not. I say talk him down some more! :lol:Self appointed Ravens SuperFan in the southern hemisphere/New Zealand.

I see more like 7 years 110-115. Worth every penny because at some point, the cap is going to blow up and 17 million is going to look like a steal for a franchise QB.
My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging. -Hank Aaron

Re: What is Joe worth?
Joe will get paid more than "market" value whatever that is. What's the alternative? Joe may or may not be "elitie", but we can win a Super Bowl with Joe. Unless you can guarantee a replacement who is as good or better, we have to pay him. I get frustrated with the sub par performances on the road, but also wonder what would have been if Joe came out in 2003 instead of Kyle.

Re: What is Joe worth?
The first rule of negotiation is that you should always be willing to walk away from the table. Otherwise, we'd pretty much have to give him the keys to the castle.

Joe is going to get paid. A lot. He will be on the Ravens at least another 7 years or more.

Re: What is Joe worth?
I just watched the elite Brees throw five INTs with another taken off for a defensive penalty.
Going by the fact every QB has a terrible day, I'm willing to bet the Ravens consider Joe a top 10 QB and will pay him based on that. This is a novel I was asked to proofread. The author is giving 10% of the profits to kidney research, which is a big deal in the Darb household. Fair warning; it's a fantasy novel, and the main characters are lesbians. It's three bucks on kindle from Amazon.http://www.amazon.com/WINDOWS-BROKEN...ken+fairy+tale

I don't think Joe leaves Baltimore, and when all is said and done Steve and Ozzie will make it work. They know what Joe gives them, and they know he instantly makes 10 teams better. If Joe hit the market he would land with any one of these teams without even batting an eye:
Arizona Cardinals
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tennessee Titans
St. Louis Rams
Oakland Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs
Cleveland Browns
Philadelphia Eagles
Seattle Seahawks
Buffalo Bills
The Ravens aren't giving up their most successful QB in franchise history just to start over again because he struggled on the road this year. No way.

Re: What is Joe worth?
Arizona and Kansas City, Joe will never make it back to Baltimore if he hits the open market. I don't want to see the team let him go but I also don't want to see the cap bogged down by his contract, like Peyton Manning's did the Colts. Joe simply isnt the guy that can carry a team on his shoulders consistently.

There is no comparison to those two contracts though. Peyton got paid a ton, Joe won't get that.
But the alternative is to let Joe walk and then what? Who is coming in here to keep the Ravens going to the playoffs? That's the other piece to this. If the Ravens let Joe walk, who QB's this team?

Re: What is Joe worth?
I wouldn't replace - I'd say add Vikings and Jets. I'd also add Dolphins.
Moot point though. There is zippy chance of Joe hitting the open market. He's going to get his deal, and it will put him among the top tier of QB's in terms of salary, whether or not a handful of fans agree with it or not.
