Ed Reed - nobody has mentioned it, so I will.

When we need him, this man can still get it done.

Picks off Charlie batch for what looks like the game-sealing INT. Batch gets bailed out by our offense.

He sealed the game for us in CLE, he tried to do it this week, got a pick 6 against the bengals... The man can still cover.

Im just glad to still have him on the team. Definitely my favorite player, ever.

Also - what a return on last nights INT! for a second, I thought he was to the house.

I love Ed Reed also. I never get why people diss him around here....he is a true ballhawk and has made some crucial plays for us that were game changers. That INT last night was huge just when we needed it. Too bad our offense gifted the ball back.

So, where was Ed Reed the other 300 yards and two td's?

Or right. Getting smoked by a 63 year old behind a hodge podge OL.

Thats all on the offense too, right?

Youre right, Ed is the only person in the secondary.

I dont care if 5000 yards were let up, when we needed a play, he stepped up.

And really, if you cant see that our issue with this team is the offense, you need to clean your purple sunglasses

The pick was great and I'm not surprised at all he snagged one.

However, basically claiming the offense let him down when the D couldnt get off the field the entire 2nd half is nonsense. While you arent specifically saying this, many are and its hogwash.

This was a complete team loss. Not just o, not just d. Everyone. Including Mr. Reed.

Re: Ed Reed - nobody has mentioned it, so I will.

I think Reed still has a knack for big plays, but his gambling (or trying for the big play) costs us more these days than it did when he was in his prime and our CBs and ILBs could cover better. Yesterday, and against Philly, were the blatant examples, but it happens a time or two every game, where Ed vacates the middle of the field in an attempt to jump another route, and we get burnt.

And his tackling obviously is an issue due to his constantly-banged-up status (plus new league rules).

Clearly he is a legend and HoFer, but he certainly isn't flawless anymore like he used to be. And, again, he still has the knack for a timely big play, which is a rare ability. And he still intimidates people (though less than he used to) from throwing it in his vicinity.

2 INT, 1 FR. (2 of these by ED)

That should be more than enough to beat a ben rothlisberger-less steelers team who is full of injuries. Not to mention, while were at HOME.

The O definitely let him down. I am in no way saying that the D played well. However, the O was definitely the fault of this game.

Defensive players do get tired. And if you noticed, we shit on charlie batch in the first half.

Then what happens? Our coaches do not adjust.

Agreed but to hang it on Reed?

    I don't see it.

    I agree here.

He had a FR and an INT. What more do we want from a 34 year old safety?

Re: Ed Reed - nobody has mentioned it, so I will.

Through six games, the Ravens defense has averaged giving up 21.8 ppg at M&T this year. So the defense gave up just over the normal amount of points for this year. The offense didn't get close to their normal M&T production.

basically, the defense held serve for 2012, which is not to say that I'm happy they're giving up that many points, but it is what it is. The offense scored fully two TDs less than their average at M&T for 2012.

Throw in two bad turnovers, and it's a wonder the defense didn't give up more.

They want him to single handedly win the game and save the day

I was going to start a thread but figured Id let it go. He was a liability on several plays. He's been a playmaker like no other by gambling but father time came calling.

Well, if he had ran that interception back for a TD, we very well could have won the game!
It was a TOTAL team loss.

Hes always been a liability in coverage. The only difference between ed reed now and ed reed 5 years ago is his tackling ability is not what it was and he doesnt have quite the same burst of speed. He also had a better supporting cast his whole career.

How many plays were the offense on the field in the fourth quarter?

Re: Ed Reed - nobody has mentioned it, so I will.

Now that our secondary is kind of makeshift with new guys coming in to replace our injured starters, Ed Reed needs to stop gambling and freelancing so much and start playing more disciplined and within the scheme.

Of course, it's up to our coaches to get that message through to Reed. That they haven't is just another bad sign. One of many.

Reed is still an awesome playmaker though--but sometimes that can (almost) backfire on him

I'm not hanging it on Reed.

However, we see it all the time with other players.

For example, if Kruger has a sack, but didn't set the edge well all night and missed multiple tackles...he'd be crucified.

As I said in other posts in this thread, this was a TOTAL TEAM loss. I just don't think anyone gets a pass.

The D couldn't get off the field. The O couldn't stay on the field in the 2nd half. The coaches couldn't adjust to what the Steelers were doing at all. It was a pathetic outing all around.
