This stat alone shows you why Cam must go. We have a top 3 running back in the league along with an explosive rookie who as far as I know looks as though he could rip off a huge everytime he gets his hands on the football.plus a top 3 guard in the NFL...yet we're 23rd. Wow good to know, agree with everything here. Maybe Cameron is saving rice for the playoffs? I'm tired of Cameron's ( or harbaughs) idea that we we need to transition with the rest of the league in the passing game. I agree to an extent but then why are the patriots who have one of the best passing attacks running the ball more and more as the season goes on? Stick with the bread and butter, run the ball run play action and roll outs. IMO we don't have the offensive scheme to become pass heavy. Receivers can't get separation, routes are too long, o line too inconsistent Etc etc

A lot of teams split RB duties. You can't just look at the # of starter carries.

In fairness there's been a lot of games rices running hasn't been getting it done for a number of reasons. But you still need balance, saying we are 22 in attempts mean nothing. We have dropped back to pass 463 times, and ran 297. That's a 60 40 split.

We are not a pass heavy team as people like leach would lead you to believe. We run almost 25 times a game on average, dropping back to pass 39.

I think that one of the factors in that stat is our TOP. You can't rush a lot if you're never on the field.

I would also prefer to see them run the ball more often and more effectively, but I'm not sure it's fair to conclude Rice is underutilized. Top ten players ranked by total yards from scrimmage...

Your right, but when Rice or Pierce gains 6-7 on 1st down, run it again or come up with something short across the middle, not bombs away every time it is 2nd and short. I've noticed that Cam is so predictable that when it is 2nd and within 4 he calls a deep pass quit often. That is the obvious pass play from a 2nd and short. Gruden "2nd and short, I wouldn't be surprised to see a deep shot here on 2nd and short Jaws, Torrey Smith can really fly" It's almost every time and it is low percentage and when that fails it is almost automatic pass on 3rd and short, which is warranted, but it is much easier to cover when you know it's coming "quick out route" Just get the MF'ing 1st down and keep driving. Run the damn ball or a short pass to the TE. Cam does exactly what is scripted, 2nd and short (pass deep) 3rd and short (quick out). That is pee wee football coaching..

Don't whitewash our justified criticism of Cam.

It wasn't that in some games he runs the ball too much.

It's that in some games he stubbornly sends Ray and Bernard right up the middle again and again even AFTER the opposing D has caught on and adjusted to stop that play--perfect example is the 2nd Browns game.

Cam's problems are his awareness and adjustments.

He seems to have little of the first so he rarely makes the second.

Boldin to Cam: "the middle of the field is open"
Cam: "Really?"

This after the Texans, Browns & Steelers games where the middle of the field had also been open.

But for Cam to send a WR not named Boldin over the middle of the field, especially short on a slant or crossing pattern, more than once or twice in a game REGARDLESS OF HOW THE OTHER D IS SET UP TO PLAY HIS O, so even if it would work, at least UNTIL THE OTHER D WOULD BE FORCED TO ADJUST TO STOP IT...no sorry, NOT CAM'S STYLE BABY!!

That's the problem with Cam: he doesn't seem to understand the concept of finding something that works and sticking with it until it doesn't, then once it stops working, adjusting and switching to something else that may work (and if it doesn't, keep adjusting until you find something that works again).
