Why Ray Rice is not getting the BALL more..???
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...lion-by-march/
That really is food for thought! The deal also includes a $5 million one-time incentive/escalator. If he reaches specific rushing/receiving targets in any of the first three years of the deal, and if the team finishes in the top 10 in total offense, Rice receives a $1 million incentive in he year he accomplishes the feat — and another $4 million is spread over the remaining years of the deal.Last edited by RavensQB; 12-05-2012 at 01:05 PM.

You gotta love the business side of the NFL. Reminds me of that rumor that Mount McKinnie is on the bench because they don't wanna pay him despite the fact that our OLine would be better with him at LT and Oher at RT...

Re: Why Ray Rice is not getting the BALL more..
So the Ravens have paid him $17M this year (bonus+base), and then owe him a roster bonus in March of another $7M.
After paying him $24 million over one year, do you really think they care about another $1 million enough to limit his touches? Seriously, do you honestly think this or are you just throwing shit up against a wall?
EDIT: And to add on to what Shas put in the other thread, Rice is currently ranked 5th in total yardage. That may be enough to earn the bonus anyway.

Re: Why Ray Rice is not getting the BALL more..
My opinion... what you are implying is absurd. If the team had real concerns about paying out that extra money they wouldn't have added it to the contract. For one, the Ravens are not going to risk tanking the season for what amounts to a couple of extra dollars, to them. For two you are going to have a hard time getting the coaches to go along with it. Their jobs are on the line every week, to have to do that for 3 years would make it beyond difficult for them to keep their jobs. Rice is the teams best player a good OC would ride his coattails until he fell off.
The more likely explanation is that the gameplan that Cameron draws up is actually what he believes will work best. Its the more likely explanation and the more scary explanation.

The answer is really simple. Cam just doesn't call his number for whatever reason. I really don't understand it.

I just don't see a coach risking losses which could cost him his job so a player doesn't hit a bonus. Maybe if the team already sucks and the GM is pushing for it but not on a winning team.

Re: Why Ray Rice is not getting the BALL more..
Part of the situation is that they are trying to save Rice for the stretch run. Another aspect to this, isn't how many times his number is being called, but how his number is being called. That draw, off of the play fake, was not something that they do often with Rice. They've been, more or less, trying to use Rice the way they should be using Pierce. Rice needs to get out in space more.

Re: Why Ray Rice is not getting the BALL more..
It is a mystery. Cam seems to be channeling Marchibroda and Cavanaugh, which, if he is, explains much.
Under Marchibroda, we'd build a double-digit lead by the half, and Bam Morris would have 80 yards rushing. We'd lose the game in the second half, and Morris would finish with less than 90 yards total, and carried the ball only once or twice. Meanwhile, Rosey Potts would have caught four swing passes for a net gain of -10, all in the second half.
Under Cavanaugh, Grbac hit Ismail on a crossing route for a 63 yard touchdown in the second or third game of the season, and we never saw that route by Ismail again...

Re: Why Ray Rice is not getting the BALL more..
We're currently 19th in total offense, so Ray Rice's targets are irrelevant anyway. If he reaches specific rushing/receiving targets in any of the first three years of the deal, AND if the team finishes in the top 10 in total offense, Rice receives a $1 million incentive in he year he accomplishes the feat — and another $4 million is spread over the remaining years of the deal."People against the abuse of dead horses and the idea of moving Lardarius Webb to safety"
