Re: Draft / FA / Offseason Roster Moves (Merged)
Well everyone may like to throw the whole "nose tackles don't make the stats sheet" but thats nonsense in todays league. Compared to his last years, Hampton has fell off a cliff statistically, he used to generate 4 or 5 sacks per year at times. His grading on PFF is -9.4, what makes him worth signing?
For example, Vince Wilfok had 34 tackles, and 3 sacks this year, and that was classed as a down year for him. Its not like nose guard never make the stat sheet, that's just not the case anymore. We're going by past reputation here with Hampton.Last edited by leachisabeast; 02-17-2013 at 12:26 AM.

Alec Ogletree will go in the second rounds anyway, I've watched his tape, he isn't all that he's hyped up to be. Speedy athletic guy who can cover well, but his tackling and shedding blocks leaves a lot left to be desired.

You checked any other of his years? There is ot one he has a positive grade in. He also has had five sacks in the last 5 years. He's had 9 sacks in 11 years, where the hell did you did you get 4 or 5 a year from? At least get your facts right if your going to be using stats to try and back up an argument.
I'm not sharing I want him, frankly I don't, but some of the shit in come out with his ridiculous.
Hampton and codys job is two eat up two blockers and hold the line, push the pocket if your lucky, allowing everyone else to do their job. Even comparing them to wilfork is a joke, that's not his role. He's their main vocal point like ngata is ours. I wouldn't care if Cody never had a tackle Ll year as long as held point at the Los and occupied two blockers. That's a nose tackles job. Keep linebackers clean and don't create a hole for a runner to dance through.HUNT HUNT HUNT, dont stop hunting til you have him up on your wall!! - Ray Lewis to T Sizzle on our record setting sack day

Re: Draft / FA / Offseason Roster Moves (Merged)
He had like 5 fewer overall tackles than his career average.
I agree that I'd prefer a younger guy and I think we'd all prefer younger guys at every position...but sometimes that may not be an option in UFA. You can find a young guy in the draft and still get a vet to be a rotation guy.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Never really said it was, he did get a negative rating on PFF though. Not saying PFF is the bible of football or anyrhing, but its the guys in the trenches that PFF are usefull for.

he has also only had one positive rating the previous five years because his pass rush grade is always around -10. I've already addressed that.
Are you saying hes sucked the past four out of five season because he has had a negative grade? He isn't vince wilfork or ngata. He's a space eater, his job is to keep the ilbs clean, something none of ours did.
A better way to grade a nose tackles play is to look at the ilbs behind him. Timmons has 54 stops, 30 odd more than our ilbs. Even larry foote had more than any of ours. Hampton keep his ilbs clean, job done.HUNT HUNT HUNT, dont stop hunting til you have him up on your wall!! - Ray Lewis to T Sizzle on our record setting sack day

Re: Draft / FA / Offseason Roster Moves (Merged)
Ogletree is a tough prospect to grade IMHO.
I don't like his aversion to taking on blockers, but on the other hand, the "take on blockers and shed" argument is kind of old IMHO...the days of the big 255 lb LB's who are brushing off 320 lb linemen are coming to an end...the vast majority of LB's are going to get engolfed by guards and centers except for the very few elite LB's in this league and even they are often able to slip the blocks by reading keys and being faster to the spot than the linemen.
It's tough...there are no Pat Willis' or Kuechly's in this draft. None of the ILB's or OLB's are good at taking on linemen IMHO...and the ones that are better at that, are typically bad in pass coverage.
I think I'd definately take Ogletree simply because I think we are more desperate for speed as opposed to size.
He did have an impressive play in the SEC championship game where he absolutely STONED Eddie Lacy in the hole at the goal line...I remember not thinking he had that type of physicality/heart to make a play like that.

And so it begins.
You know there will be about 3-4 more incidents coming.
Every year.
I will never understand why these guys don't just lock themselves up in a box from Feb-Apr. Is it really that hard to stay out of trouble before the biggest interview of your life?
Well he now has this incident to match a previous positive drug test. Looking like a trend.

This is the only game I've seen from Quessenberry. Maybe he can be seen on a Ryan Otten tape somewhere. Not too impressed with Quessenberry here though. I know his value is in his positional flexibility, but I hope LT is his weakest position.

Re: Draft / FA / Offseason Roster Moves (Merged)
Someone, maybe a month a go, maybe Alien Bird or Carey, asked me about Ace Sanders.
I hadn't looked at him then and still haven't, but based upon his seasonal stats, the best games to find would be vs. Clemson, Michigan (Outback Bowl), Tennessee and LSU...in that order.
All of those games were late in the season, so Lattimore film wouldn't help, but SC's center (name escapes me right now) is a prospect, so tape featuring him might show you Sanders.

Re: Draft / FA / Offseason Roster Moves (Merged)
Ace Sanders is a typical smallish, scat WR with short area explosiveness and speed. He does a nice job with the ball in his hands and he is definitely someone that can take it the distance as a return specialist. I just don't know how much value he has because of his size. It really limits what you can do with him on the field IMO. However, I do think that he and Darius Johnson (SMU) could be mid-late round options for a "Tavon Austin-esque" receiver for the Ravens.

The more I think about it the more it seems that we will not be able to keep Kruger. I do not see him taking a discount, he already has his ring now it's time to chase after the money. I do not think he is worth 9mil a year, as it has been said previously we have depth behind him. You can scheme to replace the pass rush. The biggest factor I think is that the colts just released Freeney, which shows they want to either get younger or save money-or both. I have a feeling that this means they are going to after Kruger hard! With Robert Mathis on the other side to compliment him, I feel it would be a good move. Personally I wouldn't blame him for leaving but I think it's much more essential for this team to keep Ellerbe.
