    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

McCarron is on the fucking money.

He's a RS Junior. With this performance, I could see him pushing his stock up into the 2nd round if he comes out this year.

I wouldn't be stoked simply because we don't necessarily "need" a TE, but there is a real possibility that Eiffert could be the best player available and we do know that Ozzie really wanted Gronkowski a couple of years ago. Dont get me wrong, I think Pitta is great...but Eiffert literally could be a Rob Gronkowski type of TE whereas I see Pitta as a guy like Jacob Tamme. Solid, but isn't someone who will take over a game.

Eiffert is 6'6" and every bit of 250-255lbs.
I don't know about pissed... it would shock me, but I wouldn't be pissed. Eifert is an amazing prospect. I don't think he's quite the prospect Gronkowski was but he's similar. It's pretty much never the wrong idea to add a serious offensive weapon... just look at Bernard Pierce. A lot of people didn't understand the pick because we had Rice but this is a league where you never have enough weapons. Now we've got 2 devastating RBs. Why not 2 devastating TEs?

Honestly, it's an intriguing idea. I would be cool with it if they were going to commit to a 2TE offense every down. Pitta is too good to take off the field, so you would probably be lining Eifert up inline with Pitta moving all around (in the slot, at H-back, etc.) if Eifert continues to improve as a blocker it's a really nice fit. They'd likely be cutting Leach in the offseason if they move in that direction.

The Texans have shown that you can line up in a base 2TE offense and run the ball just as well as you pass.

The other thing too is Pitta will be 28 next year. While that isn't THAT old for a TE, it is something to consider.

I think he has already said he was going back to school.

The problem some have with him...and generally QB's in similar situations is he is surrounded by so much talent sometimes it's hard to get a read on guys like that.

But I agree, I don't think people give him the credit he deserves
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

    Nah unfortunately.

Right now he's looking a lot better than Te'o as a prospect

#42, Hubbard, looks like a pretty solid 3-4 OLB as well.

Doesn't seem to me like Barrett Jones is getting good push against Louis Nix. I know Nix is a top prospect, but still.

I'm really hoping Manti drops out of the top 10.

Words can't describe how completely selfishly pissed I am about that lol.

I had Mosely pegged for us before the season started. He would have been perfect for this defense.

That kid is crazy. Isn't he like 6'6 250 as a true sophomore?

Te'o is getting caught up in traffic WAY too much in this game.

    Mosley is making plays.

I think this is a good example of why some are a little concerned about Te'o's overall athleticism. Mosley isn't as big, but he closes quickly and he doesn't seem to get caught up in the traffic.

I'm beginning to think that Te'o won't go as high as many think. Kind of reminds me of Laurinaitis a few years ago. That guy was a hell of a linebacker at Ohio State and several pundits thought he'd be a top 25 pick and he fell to the 2nd round because of questions surrounding his athleticism and sideline to sideline quickness. Now, I don't think Te'o will drop that far, but he may drop into the 20's.

Lol...Notre dame went with the "all go" Cam special on their 4th down play

A stalemate against a 6'5" 330lb NT with the athleticism of Nix is a good performance.

A few draft experts are thinking this too. He might not do too well at the combine. I've seen Matt Miller say he thinks either us or the Steelers will make a play for Manti.

What are you talking about? He stonewalled Nix on both TD runs despite giving up 50 pounds to the guy. I wouldn't expect Jones to actually move Nix around, his job is to seal the guy off in solo blocking with no help, and he's delivering.

Yea, Alabama's webpage has him listed at 6'6" 248lbs.

You know, you might be right on that. I definitely see the Laurinaitis comparison. Te'o is more of a throwback player than a true athletic freak like a Mosley or Ogletree. Doesn't mean he's not a good player, but it is what it is.

I'll tell you what, no matter how bad of a game Te'o ends up having here, if he falls into the 20's we MUST make a play for him.
