This WV vs Syracuse is a stinker so far, due mainly to the elements and constant penalties

Do the Ravens have a shot at him?

I'm not a draft guru like some of these guys but I've seen Okafor listed as the 3rd highest rated DE so that should mean bottom of 1st, top of 2nd maybe?

It's up in the air atm, some have said as low as early 3rd, others have said mid first round. Let's wait and see what happens at the combine. To me, he's a late first round/early second round projection right now.

    I think so.

He is 1st round talent, but there are a lot of really great DE's this year.

Another reason to question National Football Post's player evaluation... read their section on Okafor. They claim he is "not viewed as an elite NFL prospect" who will slide to the third day in the draft. They claim anonymous scouts agree with their assessment.

Yeah, okay. Okafor looked pretty damn good last night. Lots of good pass rush moves, adequate speed to turn the corner, and the kid does all the little things well. Of the pure DEs in this draft I'd rank him 3rd or 4th. The only guys that are definitely ahead of him are Damontre Moore and Bjoern Werner. Dion Jordan and Ezekiel Ansah are both really good, but they don't have quite the polish or versatility Okafor does. The LSU DEs are both overrated.

I don't see 34 olb if we stick to it. He looked poor against the run from the parts I seem last night

La Canfora speculating that Harrison may be cut from the Steelers after this season.

How's that for an upgrade to the pass rush?

I noticed that too, and something I noticed in other games too, we already have one of those in Paul Kruger. If we're going pass rush, I would like to see a 3-4 DE rather than OLB picked because we are pretty deep with Suggs, Kruger, McClellan, Hamilton, then even McAdoo on IR. Ansah is the guy you'd want in the JJ Watt type role, sadly I think his upside get him drafted well before 20, but if there's a chance, Ravens should take it. He's not just a pass rusher, he can stop the run really well too, he'd instantly upgrade our Dline, even if he is still pretty raw.

You really think James Harrison would upgrade our pass rush? At this point, I'd say Kruger is a better pass rusher at this point in Harrisons career, he's just too old. He should retire with Troy and Whines Ward.

All this talk on centers, and Gino looked pretty damn good against the Bengals first string D.

This. I specifically watched him and he is holding up nicely. If he can be the C next year that eliminates one potential problem spot.

That's encouraging. I'm pretty much blind for this game. Out of market this weekend with NFL RZ only

Gino has been very good and the Bengals have some of the best DT's in the game.

I am officially on the "we don't need a center" train right now. I think Gino will be just fine. I still think they could look at LG or LT, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them roll with Oher, Jah, Gino, Yanda, KO next year. Honestly, that may not be too bad. I'm still not in love with Oher at LT, but if they don't have a better option...why not?

Gino has actually looked shaky in the second half as the game went on, still has a lot to work on from what I've seen. His technique can be very poor at times.

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

They WILL draft at least one, and probably two, offensive linemen next year. The reason is simple--depth. They're going to lose 3 guys next year (McKinnie, Williams, Birk) and they need to stay young at OL. They have 2 prospects on the PS that could potentially make good depth in Antoine McClain and Jack Cornell, but I would only count on 1 of them to actually make the team and maybe neither of them do.

Thus, they need at least 2 OL. Probably an interior lineman who can play guard or center and a tackle who can possibly play LT. Look for late round guys--one guy I like who's probably a 3rd rounder is Ricky Wagner out of Wisconsin. He's a potential LT prospect who could push Oher as early as year 1 or 2.
