Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
IMHO...I don't get the like for Swope.
I don't think he is any good.
I'd rather go for a shorter, quicker guy like Marquise Goodwin.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
Everything I'm hearing about this Catapano bloke sounds pretty good, if the Ravens were going 4-3 wonder if he might not be a good selection in the third or something.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
Ravens have met with the following at the Senior Bowl:
Oregon RB, Kenjon Barner.
San Jose State TE, Ryan Otten.
San Jose State OT, David Quessenberry.
Illinois DE/OLB, Michael Buchannon.
Texas DE, Alex Okafor.
Notre Dame C, Braxston Cave.
LSU DE, Lavar Edwards. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
Braxston Cave is an interesting one. Despite his team playing shit in the BCS, he actually had a good game and held Jesse Williams in check fro the most part. I would consider him in the fourth/fifth to compete with Gino.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
Cave was the strongest player on the team. He is not the most athletic of linemen. Last year ended early due to foot injury. His level of play was higher before the foot injury than an at any point this season. He is an interesting late round prospect. He can also play guard.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
wow he is listed at 6'3 303 lbs, but it appears to be very good weight, and he looks bigger than that. Looks like a gym monkey to me.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
He's probably not going to be a number 1 receiver but on a team with Torrey and Boldin he can essentially be Wes Welker on steroids; he's got all the quickness underneath that is impossible for LB's to cover and he also has the straight line speed that Welker doesn't have to get deep. I'd love to add him as a 3rd WR.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
In terms of WR in the Senior Bowl practice today, the two guys who stand out are Quinton Patton and Tavares King. King in particular is tall and would fit the deep-ball offense. He is running very crisp routes for a tall guy and creating separation.
Quinton Patton is an all-around solid receiver. He fights the press, has good hands, and is solid all the way around. I would like either of these guys drafted, if Boldin is cut.Last edited by s.r.genovese; 01-22-2013 at 02:30 PM.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
Lane Johnson is rising quickly as a LT prospect. Everyone is projecting him as a true LT because of his height and arm length. He's a guy who might shoot past us at 32 but if he drops he's a good bet to get picked by us.
He's improved every single game he played in college at OU.

Remove my previous post about aboushi, he looks out of place at LT.
Lane Johnson however looks like a player.-JAB

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
Lane Johnson is going to be a top 20 pick...no doubt about it. Matthews and the kid from Michigan staying in school totally killed any chance of him or Fisher dropping to us (Along with us going to the Super Bowl and it's resulting low draft position
)
Aboushi struggling is bad news for us.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
I was hoping hed show some kind of base so he could be had later but still be a viable option with some coaching his feet are bad his bend isnt good and he doesnt seem strong. Mayock saying hes a G but i think hell need work even for that.
I liked lane johnson a lot, but im assuming hes going to be much higher than 32.-JAB

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
I would not be disappointed if the Ravens took a high risk/high reward player, Da'Rick Rogers, at the end of the 2nd round (if he's still on the board). That guy could end up being a Julio Jones clone. Big, fast, and not afraid to go across the middle. If he could get his off-field act together, that would be a steal. Risky, but then again . . .

Various comments from Tony Pauline...
Tony Pauline@TonyPauline
Another dominant day for Larry Warford/G/Kentucky.Tony Pauline@TonyPauline
Again: Montori Hughes/Tenn-Martin. Terrific quickness and power. Bullrushing opponents off the line.Tony Pauline@TonyPauline
Zeke Ansah/BYU: lot of flashes little consistency.
Margus Hunt DL SMU
6082 277 9.58 33.38
Tues: Looks the part and flashed ability yet at times was easily handled by opponents. Needs to really fine tune and polish his game.Alex Okafor DL Texas
6045 261 9.00 33.18
Tues: Like his game and motor. Uses all his assets to their maximum yet not a great athlete.Datone Jones DL UCLA
6041 280 9.68 32.18
Tues: Flashed dominance throughout the day but there was no level of consistency in his play making. Thoroughly beat blockers on several downs then would disappear for stretches.Kawann Short DL Purdue
6032 308 9.48 32.78
Tues: Solid day for short. Was impossible to stop on the inside at times and displayed a good change of direction with the ability to get outside the box and pursue plays.David Quessenberry OL San Jose State
6050 294 9.38 33.78
Tues: Lined up at both guard and tackle. There’s a lot to like about his game; mechanics, athleticism, quickness. Needs work yet has an upside.
Justin Pugh OL Syracuse
6047 301 10.0 31.48
Tues: Lined up at both tackle and guard. Quick, moves well and blocks with solid fundamentals. Very quick in his pass set-ups. Marginal strength and never really finished blocks.Ricky Wagner OL Wisconsin
6061 310 10.1 33.48
Tues: Give him high grades for effort but looked marginally athletic and often times was holding on for dear life.
Brian Winters OL Kent State
6034 310 9.48 32
Tues: Looked dominant at times. Terrific size, build and strength. Annihilated opponents at the line then showed surprising skill blocking in motion.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
I still think we end up with Elam in the 1st round.

Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread
I like Alex Okafor, but I don't think he would be what this team needs as a pass rusher. I just don't think he's dynamic enough. However, as a straight-line pass rusher, he'd be pretty good. We could do a lot worse.
