Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
From my viewpoint, the refs absolutely stunk up the field and it became very noticeable how bias they were.
The overturned TD was ridiculous. The flags on Torrey's block as well as Reed's hit were bogus.
Jones catches the ball facing away from the goalline, has both hands wrapped around the ball, while his feet are on the ground, he did not leap up to catch the ball, so he doesn't need to come to the ground with it, by rule. He takes 2 steps and turns and reaches and lunges with the ball outstretched over the goalline, TD! End of play.
The Giant defender, who I believe was a linebacker gets outside of Torrey who was downfield. The linebacker completely turns around, Torrey, who is now downfield past the linebacker, turns and goes towards the sideline. The linebacker sees the play going around him and up the sideline is taking a pursuit angle turns around and downfield and gets hit square in the chest by Torrey who is downfield and running towards the sideline. BS call.
Ed comes from his safety position on a sideline pass where Cruz turns around catches the ball and Ed turns to avoid the helmet hit and uses his shoulder and aims to hit the ball loose BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT A DB IS SUPPOSED TO DO AND PAID TO DO. How is a defender supposed to play at that speed????!!! IF Ed has to bend over and hit him in the waist, then they might as well change the name of the game to something else because that's not football, and put asterisks next to EVERY passing record that has fallen since last year. I want to see someone make that play bent over. When you are running at the high speed of these football players today, if you lower your head to hit someone in the waist, you get your neck broke or the player leaps over your head LIKE LAST WEEK. Who remembers that?
The guys are taught from little league up to NOT lower their head, especially at the waist level because you lose sight of the player and they can make a move and leave you clutching at air. You won't be playing long at any level if you do that.
These flags that are thrown at the absolute fundamentals of the game are ridiculous. When players that have played their entire career since they were 8 years old, the way football was taught, are being asked to change what has become imprinted as second nature, it is virtually impossible. It is like being asked to write with your other hand AND keep up with the others. You can see that Ed turns his head away to avoid giving a helmet hit. Doing that makes him take his eye off the receiver does it not??? Well, he has managed to change some of his natural instincts and still that is not good enough.

Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
From a financial standpoint, if they suspend him he would be smart to appeal it until the playoffs.
A suspension for the final regular-season game would cost Reed 1/17th of his regular-season salary, which equates to more than $423,000. If Reed misses a wild-card playoff game, he’d lose only $22,000.World Domination 3 Points at a Time!

Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
Also, I remember the last time he was suspended the ruling came out Monday and when a player is fined for a foul (not suspended) that ruling comes out later in the week,
The reason being is the player needs time to appeal if he wants to and has 3 days from the time of the suspension to appeal.
I am leaning towrds him not being suspended as they would have done it today especially with the league offices most likely closed on Tuesday.
Plus this hit is nothing close to the one on sanders which was much more obivious. no intent of head to head to a blow to the head but way more clear where here its hard to tell if he even made contact with the head and if it was actually Eds hit that made Cruz hit the ground.

Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
Read the comments in the PFT article to see most neutral fans agreed.
I believe that the league office also knows it was a BS call, but couldn't stand pat or else it would have been an admission of the horrible officiating in the Giants game. Therefore, the relatively light fine + no suspension. In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T
came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
Hope he appeals it. If he loses, call Vilma lawyer, he'll know how to handle it. If a class action lawsuit suddenly appears, I think the NFL finally gives some clarification on these shoulder hits that have been happening lately. Was there a fine for the hit on Davis in the 49ers game?

Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
What really ticks me off is if the league felt it was helmet to helmet or something intentional, they would have suspended Reed since he's been put on notice for prior hits. By not issuing a suspension, that tells me that when they looked at it, it was CLEARLY a good, legitimate hit in their eyes too. If it's a good hit, there should be no suspension OR fine. I feel bad for Reed being unjustly penalized.

I believe the NFL is trying to get the money they wanted in the new Cba with all the fines.

Re: Will Reed get suspended? I suspect so
No, the NFL doesn't want hard hits no matter if they're "legal" or not. If a player is slow to get up after a hit, a penalty and fine is coming no matter where or how the hit was delivered. The NFL wants hug tackles. This is why they made NFL Network eliminate the "Jacked Up" segments that they used to have.
