I posted before; he had to go into every game with a gameplan to win with running the ball and defense. They had no threat of a passing attack. Like fighting with one arm tied behind your back.

They need to at least get some pieces on the offensive side of the ball and a good OC
They've just cancelled his press conference there

I think that presser cancellation is just the Woody Johnson's way of telling Rex to just sit back and keep his mouth shut today.

Updating a previous item, NFL Network's Michael Lombardi is now reporting on Around the League Live that coach Ron Rivera will remain "in limbo" until the Panthers finalize their general manager search.

Now THERE is a guy I would love to come to Baltimore. He's a fantastic defensive coordinator. San Diego's defense was able to stifle guys like Brady and Manning despite not having a lot of elite talent under his tenure.

Lovie Smith's firing is surprising with one more year left on his contract.

Heard the same about 45 mins ago and I haven't been able to find anything online.

Hmmm... just looked up Rivera's wiki page--hadn't realized that I drive by his high school every day. Considering his history in Chicago, though, I have to wonder if he wouldn't be on their short list to replace Lovie.

As head coach? I suppose I wouldn't rule that out, but he didn't leave the Bears on great terms, and why would they replace Lovie with a guy who's just coming off a failed stint as an HC? I would think their sights might be set higher...

I don't see Rivera getting another HC shot right away. I think he's going to need to slide back down to coordinator at least for a few years. Hey, the Harbaugh ties are there--he was the Eagles LB coach from 99-03 when Harbaugh was ST coordinator. I'm sure they had at least some working relationship, although the personal connection isn't really there like with most of Harbaugh's hires.

Pees might be safe anyway at this point, honestly.

5 down and we still haven't officially heard from Tennessee, Carolina, Jacksonville, Arizona and the Chargers. I am betting that there is going to be a surprise in there, an upset special. Jason Garrett out in Dallas, watch.

    Garrett is next
"It's like a rerun ... Everybody knows how this story ends, with us and the Steelers. It's about time we changed it, and give people something new. Right now, it's kind of like we pride ourselves on being a bully, but they're the ones that keep knocking us out of the playoffs. So they're the bully. One day you just got to say '[screw] it' and punch the bully totally in his mouth. Then they won't bully you any more." T-Sizzle
