lol i was going to make the same comment regarding the spread when we were up 15 and all the bad calls came in

    On the taunting call:

Pollard was walking away from the play and someone from the Colts bench hollered at him he then turned around, hollered back and started walking towards the Colts bench.

See, the problem that the NFL has created is that now every good, square hit on a receiver is in theory a penalty, mostly because receivers are taught to "hunch down" and lower their heads as they bring the ball into their bodies. No matter how good your form is as a tackler, when receivers are lowering their heads into you, you're going to contact them. It doesn't mean you're leaving your feet, leading with the helmet, or doing anything like that.

It literally happens every time in that situation--go back and look at Ray's hit on Keller from 2010 that was cited as an "ideal tackle" by the league. Ray CONTACTED Keller's helmet on the play, but it wasn't called because at that time the NFL was more sensible in how they applied the rule. Nowadays, if I were an NFL receiver I would just lower the side of my head into the defender every play for a free 15 yards, at virtually no risk to myself.
also to add that helmets touch an almost every tackle above the waist

Someone (not in uniform) said something to Pollard after the play and he turned and walked onto the Colts sideline.
    First TO was wrong.
I hate the defenseless receiver calls - but that's what they want, redefining how safety position is played.

    Terrible game by Carey

What was wrong with either fumbles?

The only call that was bad (way bad) was the PI on Boldin.

And Carey didn't throw that flag.

    Not even close.

#50 jumped on it. Yanda didn't come up with until after the play was dead.

The first fumble was actually recovered by Yanda.
The refs saw a Colts player fall on it, get both hands on it, but the ball squirted out of his hands before he could take possession of the ball.

    That was a bad call.

The Boldin PI, he did push the CB with his left forearm to create a little space. It wasn't a huge push-off, but it was a push-off.

Alot of BS and ticky tack calls. BUT what do you expect, it's Carey. Why they said the LOWEST ranked officiating crew does this weekend, and than on up. He was the worst crewthey could come up with, imagine that.

They showed the replay ad naseum in the stadium.

50 was on top of it and Yanda came in. Once Yanda touched him, it was Colts ball.

Can someone post a clip? They must have shown that replay four times and there was little doubt amongst the fans.

The one angle they showed on TV, it squirted forward out of his hands and Yanda got his on it, the defender never got a firm grip on the ball.

It looked to us from the sideline camera that it was being juggled by #50 when Yanda came in. It wasn't like the Colt defender covered the ball up.

Don't worry, two authors on that site expect him to officiate an even more important game (one thinks divisional round, other thinks conference championship):

BTW, here is the defenseless receiver rule:

    http://nflcommunications.com/2011/12...seless-player/

And the reason this call, like some of the others is bad is this:

    (1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him; and

    (2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body.

Note: The provisions of (2) do not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or helmet in the course of a conventional tackle on an opponent.
Pollard did not violate either rule. He did not forcibly hit his neck or head with his helmet. That contact came because the receiver's head reacted to his body getting hit by Pollard's shoulder. Nor did Pollard lower his head and hit the receiver with either the crown or forehead part of his helmet.

This penalty was a judgment call by the official, and the wrong one.

I will add only this. I think next year, whoever is coaching defense needs to stress player wrapping their arms around the player instead of just shouldering them. That way the provision of a "conventional" tackle negates all this bullshit.

But Pollard's hit was clean, legal, and should not have been called.

You don't always have to be politically correct. Just saying...

I had the same view as you from the stadium and Carey sucked ass today. you can say it...nothing will happen.

The "conventional tackle" exception only applies to rule 2, not rule 1.

So, even if Pollard had wrapped his arms around the guy, they could still flag him as he "broke" rule 1, not rule 2.**

**technically, as he didn't forcibly hit the WR's head, he shouldn't have been flagged whether he wraps him up or not, because he didn't break rule 1 either, as Stinger pointed out
