Re: The Brady Kick
I watch a lot of football, therefore I see a lot of quarterbacks slide.
Not once, ever, until last night, have I seen a sliding QB's leg fly up high, spikes directed at a defender's leg.
The idea that it was "just an accident" is laughable but there are people out there trying to peddle that notion with a straight face!

Re: The Brady Kick
He's looking at Reed's leg. No doubt he intentionally kicked him. The NFL needs to fine him.

Re: The Brady Kick
Anyone not convinced yet? Here's another video angle. After the initial stabbing kick, he does an additional up kick that knocks Reed off balance.

Re: The Brady Kick
Brady looked like a whinny ass little girl on that play. Giselle should be ashamed of him disparaging womanhood that way!

Re: The Brady Kick
I think it was intentional, but I don't think there are any rules against it. The NFL isn't interested in protecting defensive players from QB's.
The whole "slide" rule is garbage, imo, and the officials usually get the spot of the ball wrong after they slide. They did on the Brady Kick play, too. The ball is supposed to be spotted where they start the slide. Invariably, they get 2-3 yards after that.
Steve Young is the QB who turned me against sliding. He was smart. He was like a fullback in the open field when he broke contain, and he'd watch the defender/s. If they held up waiting for him to slide, he'd lower the shoulder and try to truck them. If they came at him aggressively, he'd try to slide as late as possible and draw a flag for unnecessary roughness for hitting him while he was sliding. As I said, smart on his part, but an unfair advantage given to a big, athletic QB by the rules.

Re: The Brady Kick
Honestly i think some of the poor clock management was because he was surprised. Whethers thays because he did it without trying to or because there was no flag is up for debate. To me he clearly looked a little frazzeled and eventually snapped out of it but not in time to get another play off.

Re: The Brady Kick
Rule 12 Player Conduct
Section 2 Personal Fouls
STRIKING, KICKING, OR KNEEING OPPONENT
Article 1 All players are prohibited from:
(a) striking with the fists;
(b) kicking or kneeing; or
I believe there is sufficient evidence to conclude he was intent on sticking his cleats into Reed's knee.
I'd hate to see a league full of kung fu sliding quarterbacks.

Re: The Brady Kick
There's no rule against sticking your leg up when you slide, and whether or not he was kicking Reed (I think he was), that's going to be a subjective judgement by the officials on the field- and later the guys who decide if you get fined.
I doubt any of them are going to believe Future Hall of Fame Quarterback Tom Brady was trying to kick Reed. I may think he was, but I doubt any of them will. I'm positive none of the officials on the field did.
So, while it's illegal to kick another player, it's not illegal to slide with your foot up in the air and waving it around. There's no rule like there is protecting a QB or defenseless receiver from hits to the head, where intent or even what happens during the play doesn't matter. It doesn't matter on those plays if the QB or receiver moves to put their head in the line of fire. It's up to the defender to avoid contact with the head regardless of what the offensive player does. There's no "intent free" rules when it comes to lifting a leg in the air while sliding.

Re: The Brady Kick
The 3-second sideline pass, OTOH, was ridiculous.[/QUOTE]
Wasn't being paranoid, sorry if it came off that way. Honestly didn't know that.

Re: The Brady Kick
I actually don't think he was intentionally trying to kick/hurt Reed. I think he got really scared and didn't want to get hit so he put up his leg to try to deflect contact. Brady is so so soft...further evidence was when he let the ref tackle him because 52 was coming for his ass.

He had "malice in his heart", no doubt.
What a punk.

Re: The Brady Kick
Yup so some commentators have just taken to pretending that it never happened and not commenting on it at all.
Its sickening I was watching ESPN just a few minutes ago listening to the commentators go on about how every bad play was not his fault. Even going to the extent of saying he had not chance to make the first down on that 4th pass to nobody when it appeared that running it would have given him a better chance.
Here is the truth folks that ESPN is just to chickenshit to say. Brady and Belicheat are both talented guys. To deny that is to diminish your credibility. They are also guys who were aided by knowing what their opponents were going to do secondary to spygate. It took them from good to great and they have NEVER been quite the same since despite superior talent to those teams. But ESPN will never say that ....to busy kissing Brady's posterior“A linebacker's job is to knock out running backs, to knock out receivers, to chase the football,”

Re: The Brady Kick
No doubt in my mind it was intentional on Tommy Ugg's part. I don't think he thought, "Oh, this is Ed Reed coming. I'm going to Rochambeau him." I just think it was a punk-ass reflexive move, worthy of 15 yes, minimum.
Frustration, fear and failure sometimes exacerbate poor decision making.
That, plus Tommy Ugg cries more than a Japanese anal porn star."CARPE LOMBARDI"
