Boldin says he will retire if released

Per WNST text, Boldin told PFT that he will retire if released.

That's probably good news for reaching an extension.

I saw the text; was really surprised. I wonder if this is just emotion talking and/or a negotiating ploy or if he is really serious. He does strike me as a very loyal person but just a hunch.

We need to keep him but I know it will mean pain in other areas.

This bought a tear to my eye. He wanted to be a champ for so long and now that he's done that, he'd rather retire than play for someone else. Class. That's class.

I hope the FO can come up with SOMETHING to keep him.

    Wow, I freaking LOVE Anquan.

And yeah, I hope he doesn't retire for a couple more years...if you can read between the lines there.

    Wow, didn't expect that.

He's been to Pro-Bowls, Playoffs and now has a ring, at his age he may be content with just riding off into the sunset instead of having to move to another city again.

Hopefully this sounds like a reasonable extension will not be hard for the Ravens to pull off with Q.

    NOt surprising to me.

Tough, tough, tough dude who's given everything he's had to be a champ. If he retires a Raven I will be happy.

And the fact he'd rather retire than play somewhere else is pure class. Nothing but respect for the guy.

This is a great way to ride off into the sunset but me being the selfish fan hopes Q signs an extension for a couple more years. We've seen what kind of production he can give when used properly.

Boldin likes to win. He was serious in Arizona when he wanted a new contract and there is no reason to believe he isn't serious now. Harbaugh love him. Joe loves him. They're going to extend Boldin and keep everyone happy.

Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

I don't trust NST but...if true, hopefully we can get him on the cheap.

Q is the man. I'd consider retirement too if I finally accomplished my goal. Dude literally had a broken face. Tough as nails. Beast. He can do whatever the hell he wants.

Boldin told this to a NBC reporter

@eknbc: Anquan Boldin just told me he will RETIRE if he is cut by the Ravens. They will be his last team. #NFL #Profootballtalk

That is class. It's very frustrating to me because Cam's system didn't do anything for him, he finally beasted the way he should've been all along. We finally threw the ball out there to him. To me, we MUST keep him. He's exactly what the Ravens are all about, and he's still one of the best at out-muscling the DB for the ball.

Extend the ManBeast - this guy is Money, and makes this team better! There is no one currently on the roster, or outside (imho) that can replicate what he brings to the table! He has proven his worth, so keep the man!

Re: Boldin says he will retire if released (Merged)

It makes sense if you review what he has gone through in his career. His rookie year was, to this day, one of the most impressive in NFL history. Arizona didn't have a QB, rush offense or second WR of even decent quality. He was the only option and was double teamed most of the season, and still made the Pro Bowl. Only for Larry Fitzgerald to be drafted the following year, making Boldin an afterthought. They still didn't have much else, until Kurt Warner came along. The one year that Anquan Boldin had a chance to get his just due, he gets hurt, and ends up in a shouting match with Todd Haley over his usage, or the lack thereof, in the Super Bowl.

The man basically has a broken face and comes back to play. Only to even be skipped over for a quality extension by Larry Fitzgerald, not that Fitzgerald isn't a great player and not that Boldin wasn't happy for him. He then takes less money from Baltimore, to join the Ravens, than was was offered by Kansas City. He then has to deal with being misused for two and a half years, by Cam Cameron. The stars finally align again, years later, and he gets his ring.

Now, he's supposed to go somewhere else and start all over again? After all he's been through? It makes sense that he would feel the way he feels.
"When questioned, the Elders explained that they were in search of magical powers. However, they're actually searching for the whereabouts of a certain ring. This ring is a legendary treasure that long ago was known to exist"

Wow, this is class. Hope to see him a bit longer here.

It also speaks to the franchise that players would speak of the place out of love and loyalty as well as the change in their pockets.

We're lucky as fans to have such a fantastic organisation.
