Ravens Free Agent Possible Add / Drops
All things Free Agency.
Figured I would get this kicked off since FA starts up pretty soon. When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: Free Agent Thread:
I like the Ricky Jean Francois idea. He was one player I was concerned about watching him at NFL media day before the SB. He looks very bright and played at LSU, and looks solid and mean. Dorsey was an absolute monster a LSU who underperformed.....

Re: Free Agent Thread:
Terrence Knighton, DT, Jacksonville
This is who I want the Ravens to target in FA. Get Ellerbe signed, extend Boldin and Jones, sign Knighton, and if possible work out a 2 year deal with Ed Reed so that he ends his career as a Raven. I honestly don't think the Ravens are going to be able to resign McKinnie. Maybe I am wrong, but I just have this feeling that McKinnie is just trying to get an offer from the Ravens so that he can shop it to other teams. The Ravens would have to offer him the most money to get him to sign here, and I am not sure that they will be willing or able to pay that much.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
I've already said it, but I would be more than confident with Ricky playing NT here, and he'd be an instant upgrade over Cody. He looked pretty damn good in the games he started at NT in 2012 at NT, especially against the Jets (I suggest you go watch the week 4 Jets/San Fran blow out game to see how Ricky handled Slauson and Mangold in the middle pretty well). I don't understand why the 49ers weren't starting him over Sopoago, he clearly had a really down year. He's 295-300 lbs, but there are quite a few teams starting NTs that are well below the normal weight you'd expect from a NT which is 320 or more.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
I agree. I also think that Ozzie is going to take OT Manelik Watson in the first round if he is still available. I have seen a couple of mock drafts that show him going to Colts in the first round. One thing that concerns me about Watson is his age. He will be a 25 year old rookie. Maybe that is a good thing from a maturity perspective, but that could also limit the length of his career. Terron Armstead could also be an option at 32. I know some people were looking at these to OTs as second round picks, but I think the Ravens will have to pull the trigger at 32 if they want one of them. There is such a premium on OTs nowadays that I don't think Ozzie can afford to trade back to get one that could start at LT by the 2014 season.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
Knighton seems too much like another Mount Cody to me. He has weight issues and is not great against the run. I would rather grab a guy like Jean-Francois and draft Brandon Williams.
Also add these to your list of possible free agents.
Larry Grant ILB San Fran
Deandre Levy ILB Detroit (cover linebacker)
Wallace Gilberry DE Cincy (pass rush specialist)

Re: Free Agent Thread:
I don't see Menelik Watson going in the first. He played RT at FSU not LT, he will get drafted at some point in the 2nd round and be seen as a project at LT and a potential day 1 starter at RT. My boy from Manchester has a lot of talent, but it would be a reach to take him at 32, let alone 24.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
I don't know if you ever watched any Jacksonville games closely, but I can assure you that Knighton is a lot better than Cody in all facets of the game. Knighton is also a very good run defender, IDK if you're getting him confused with the other guy they have, Alualu.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
we may lose Ellerbe...but there's NO way Ozzie can go into next season with a drafted ILB, a hurting McClain, Bynes, McClellan, and BA as his ILBs. NO...WAY...
If you lose Ellerbe, who's the next best ILB available? Maulaga? Maybe...But we have to get SOMEONE decent enough, just to make sure we have an insurance policy for McClain..

Re: Free Agent Thread:
Mauluga is awful and a perfect example of a college prospect that was and still is to some extent totally overrated. He is one of the worst LBs in coverage, and by the sounds of it, isn't a great guy off the field either.
There are better options out there like Brad Jones from GB, Nick Barnett who just got cut, and Daryl Smith who has been one of the most underrated players in the league for years playing for garbage teams in Jacksonville. I'm not even joking, I think I'd rather have Bart Scott back over Rey Mauluga.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
I think that Ozzie has to draft an ILB even if the Ravens resign Ellerbe. The Ravens may reach an injury settlement with McClain and BA will either retire or get cut, so that just leaves Ellerbe and Josh Bynes as ILBs on the roster. I really like ILB Kevin Minter from LSU, but I guess the Ravens aren't high on him since they chose to not meet with him at the Combine. Either that, or they are just being coy about their interest.

Re: Free Agent Thread:
Yeah I don't watch many Jags games, but I just read up more on Knighton and at the least the general consensus seems to be that he is extremely inconsistent. He lost playing time due to that last year.
