Definitely a shame Heap was gone, same with some others who were mentioned.

There's no evidence of this, but I think JJ wasn't given a very high offer or anything. Think Cary Williams this year. We knew we wanted to get younger at OLB, and it came at a time when JJ's contract was up. I don't think he was loving going out to SD, that's just where the money was.
Corey Redding was only here a couple years, JJ was a long time Raven..

Re: Bad Timing, Good Guy
I can maybe understand the defensive players, we didn't have a place for them in the defense, and we felt like we could fill the holes with cheaper alternatives, but Ben Grubbs was rediculous. I won't miss a second of sleep worrying about him not getting a ring. We gave him every chance to be a Raven. We offered him a fair contract and really wanted, but he chose a deal that wasn't even that much bigger than ours to be the bounty ravaged Saints.

Being on a Super Bowl winning team always has a element of luck be associated with it. Yes, players and coaches all have to be at the top of their game - but it also takes luck to raise the Lombardi.
Some players are great, are on great teams - teams that just ran out of luck before the Lombardi could be competed for or raised.
