Obama Knew Millions Would Lose Coverage

Looks like someone has some explaining to do ...

    http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_n...alth-insurance

    From the article:

Buried in Obamacare regulations from July 2010 is an estimate that because of normal turnover in the individual insurance market, “40 to 67 percent” of customers will not be able to keep their policy. And because many policies will have been changed since the key date, “the percentage of individual market policies losing grandfather status in a given year exceeds the 40 to 67 percent range.”

That means the administration knew that more than 40 to 67 percent of those in the individual market would not be able to keep their plans, even if they liked them.

The article also says that its because the companies had major changes to those plans for them not to be grandfathered. so what are they really keeping, Their plan from the year before or the plan they just changed enough of that it triggered that part of the law? Thats also not going by whether it changed for better or worse but basically they werent able to keep their Original plan regardless, because the company changed it rather than letting it alone to be grandfathered.

    That's quite a twist.

Law goes into effect, with certain grandfather provisions but because some private plans don't meet the grandfather provisions, it's the companies / private insurers fault?

How about not having any law that cancels out plans that people like? You know, like the President promised?

People believed the President. People trusted him and Congress when they were told they could keep their private policies if they liked them.

Thats not a twist, its exactly what is happening. anything pre-2010 can be grandfathered in despite not meeting the new provisions... unless you make changes to it. which than its not the same plan anymore. If it lowered premiums or deductibles and made it better, id agree you should have been able to keep it still but if it went up than theres no point in really arguing that you want the old plan because it doesnt exist anymore. Its more likely it went up in cost than down knowing how the insurance industry works. The only incentive for them to remove those plans for the ones that meet the new provisions is that they werent making enough money off them to warrant keeping them because people can still enroll in them which means whatever business plan they had in mind prior to ACA, didnt change, because ACA doesnt effect it.

Grandfathered plans are those that were in existence on March 23, 2010 and have stayed basically the same. But they can enroll people after that date and still maintain their grandfathered status. In other words, even if you joined a grandfathered plan after March 23, 2010, the plan may still be grandfathered. The status depends on when the plan was created, not when you joined it.
What am i missing that ACA effected these plans and it wasnt the insurers decision to remove/change them?

just adding that I do agree if it changed to help the insured that it is shitty they cant keep it because of those stipulations that it changed too much, however unlikely that is.

Bingo. Despite the President's promises of "if you like your plan you can keep it".

If you believed the rhetoric going into the vote, there shouldn't even have been this whole grandfathering to begin with.

The law is forcing plans to meet minimum standards of coverage that many people don't need. Seniors, women, middle class, etc are all being asked now to pay for stuff they don't need.

Instead of the tailored policies they sought out and were paying for, seniors now have to pay for contraception, women who have no intent on having kids are paying for child related expenses, etc because the law states ALL policies must cover this stuff.

He lied when he said your costs won't go up. He lied when he said you can keep your plan if you like it. He lied when he said you can keep your doctor.

Which makes me wonder, why is the GOP pushing for a delay? From a a purely political standpoint the best thing that could happen for them is this law go FULLY in to effect.

But it isnt the old plans... whether its Grandfathering or not, those old plans have no reason to change besides the company itself saying they dont wont to keep them any longer. ACA does not effect those plans.

Thats a legitimate point that is a reason not to like the law, but doesnt really have anything to do with those older policies being taken away. The law didnt make them take those away, they chose to for their own reasons, whatever they may be.

I really dont think so. Government shutdown was dumb. If these guys stopped trying to kill ACA and actually worked on it instead of voting to repeal it completely 50 times some of these problems could have been addressed. Its not a great law, but it is law and this stupidity in trying to kill it completely rather than try to make it work is whats costing the most.

The insurers are canceling because the law says so. The law has minimum standards of coverage they must meet. If not the have to do away with the plan. When people say Obamacare is "a government take over of the healthcare industry" this is what they mean.

The Government told the insurance companies how they must operate (spend 80 of revenue on medical cost) and tells them what product they must offer (minimum standards of coverage) and then tells the citizens, buy it or we'll fine you.

Our Founders must be rolling over in their graves.

    That's simply wrong.

The law required all plans, all insurers to have minimum standards such as child birth, contraception, etc.

The insurers are canceling plans because the law is forcing them.

It's an unexpected reality of Obamacare being told through anecdotes in local papers and on social media. But the hard numbers reveal the evidence is far more than anecdotal. CBS News has confirmed with insurance companies across the country that more than two million people are getting notices they no longer can keep their existing plans. In California, there are 279,000; in Michigan, 140,000; Florida, 300,000; and in New Jersey, 800,000. And those numbers are certain to go even higher. Some companies who tell CBS News they've sent letters won't say how many.

Industry experts like Larry Levitt, of the Kaiser Family Foundation, say the insurance companies have no choice. "What we're seeing now is reality coming into play," he said.

Obamacare forces them to drop many of their plans that don't meet the law's 10 minimum standards, including maternity care, emergency visits, mental health treatment and even pediatric dental care
    .

That means consumers have to sign on to new plans even if they don't want or need the more generous coverage. Industry experts say about half the people getting the letters will pay more -- and half will pay less, thanks to taxpayer subsidies. Levitt said, "The winners outnumber the losers here, but because of all the website problems, it's hard to find out who the winners are because they don't even know it themselves."
