How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
Why don't we try passing right out of the gate against Denver?
Try that hurry up offense with our first possesion...That would be a bit different...They will probably be expecting us to run and the Bronco's will most likely be stacking the box with 8-9 guys anyways! Now wouldn't that be sumpin' different???

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
I agree, maybe hit a couple of quick slants to Clayton or a few shots to Mason or Heap. Use the passing game to set up the run, there's something I bet isn't in that 12,000 play playbook we heard about when Billick arrived in 99. I'm still waiting to see the other 11,990 plays in it. Make them pay if they stack the box, spread them out w/ 4 receivers. Then watch Jamal run once they are softened up.

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
agree, agree, agree. Plan A isn't working. Maybe the Pass will set up the Run. I wonder if Billick hesitates to pass more worried that he'll be criticized for trying to do what he did in Minnesota?
I said in another post--the strength of the offense is at receiver. They have a bunch of excellent targets (Mason, Clayton, Heap, Wilcox, Williams) and have got to figure how to get them the ball.

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
If we don't get a running game going period, we are going to have to pass from the get go.

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
We need to speed up the rhythm on offense. Get our hearts racing, our legs moving, and just march down the field.
And we need to give MA and Musa a shot to be our #1 back..

If I remember correctly the Ravens first play against the Bolts was a pass.

I agree with the hurry up offense. Instead of the step and fetch it.

Can our heavies manage to breathe in a no huddle offense, much less 5,000 feet above sea level?

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
We need to get a few early, quick passes off. That will pull a guy or two out of the box, then we can run, run, run.

We seem to take forever between plays, the defense has time to grab a beer and a plate of wings before we break the huddle.

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
That's classic
Everytime SuperCoach is asked this question his response is the same: We don't want to put the defense in a position to be on the field for too much time, we want to play ball control and field position, McNair doesn't have total grasp of the offense yet, and we're still a running team, blah, blah, blah. If this ever happened I think the whole city would collapse into shock.
The Steelers: Still looking for a legit Super Bowl victory.

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
this board is so much better. I posted this on YBR and one of the douchbags mods deleted it.
I like the voltron thread but if that can stay or the other can be moved to off topic then this one should have stayed.
The over moderate over there.
You guys are great over here

Re: How About Passing Right From The Get Go??
I think Chicago has blown the theory of "keeping your defense" on the field for too long. Its one thing if you have a "bend but don't break" approach -- e.g., the 2000 team -- its another if you have a higher risk / turnover approach like we have. (P.S. remember that Grossman was drafted after Boller
)
Billick's argument is wrong -- the whole West Coast offense was pass first to set up the run and have ball control. If someone has statistics, I bet we could prove that we do better when we pass on first down. Certainly when you watch the replays on NFL short cuts (only 30 minutes!) it looks that way to me.
If you're in a hole, stop digging. We need to stop this predictability! At least Fassel seems to acknowledge some of these issues right from the start on the talk shows.
