Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
I guess we are going to find out if Devard Darling is a deep threat tomorrow, aren't we?
I say line up Yamon Figurs and run him deep.
Sigh.

At least Figurs is fast. Tell him to run deep and have Kyle throw it as far as he can.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
Hasn't Figurs figured on the injury list this week (limited participation) with a knee injury?

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
He's listed as Probable, so I'm expecting him to take kicks tomorrow.
And of course Heap is listed as questionable, but he won't play tomorrow. So much for the 2 TE set again.
Why do I feel like we're going to see the same old offense tomorrow. Your only real downfield and middle threats are not playing tomorrow. That leaves your short possession receiver, a hopeful threat Clayton, an unproven-hasn't-seen-the-field-in-any-real-way WR, and the 3rd string TE.
Again I say.........sigh.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
Sting, you knew Williams was ruled out early in the week right?
They put Willis on the active roster.
As for the offense tomorrow.
I really have no expectations at all.
Sad, but true.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
What kind of offense to you have when your only deep threat is your 3rd WR?
I don't think we drafted Mark Clayton to be a 5-10 possession reciever.

It's not the WRs that is limiting the Ravens down field threat...it is the system.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
Oh yeah, I knew he was out on Monday. No one here was talking about it, and I refuse to post at YBR. Doesn't make me less concerned about it though.
I also have no expectations at this point. I don't know what is going to happen. I am not expecting any of our receivers to go deep tomorrow. I don't think I've seen a middle post pattern since Clayton ran one in 2005 against the Vikings.
I'm all for being surprised, but as WxKevin rightly hints at, the system isn't going to surprise us at all.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
Huh...Was Demetrious playing earlier???
...I thought he was just part of that crazy dream I had in one night in July that the Ravens were going to be able to stretch the field this year.

I remember reading D'Will was on crutches earlier in the week.So I expected he was out.It is what it is.It's one of those seasons where all the smelly stuff is thrown in our teams direction.
All you can do is battle through it.Scream in frustration, but battle through it.Put the smile back on your face. This is a 60 minute ball game.

I think we found out the answer to whether Darling is a deep threat or not.
Yes, he is...now lets see more of him moving forward...''You'd love to go on the first day but I'm glad for the situation I'm in,'' he said. ''Baltimore knows how to play defense.''

Darling did do fairly well, let's see him get more time.
Talk about Clayton giving up on that ball down the middle, that really disappointed me.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
I agree. Darling impressed me. And he said something before the game that I didn't think about. He and Boller played second team all the time. These two know each other well, and that caused them to hook up like that. I say he has to play again.
Clayton should have fought for that ball in the middle. Even if he couldn't catch it, he should have tried to keep the defender from catching it.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
Not to incite anything but I have a pretty good feeling had McNair thrown the same pass to Clayton, with the same result, people would have been cursing McNair for underthrowing it. Clayton had the guy beat, Boller just underthrew it. It happens. I was happy to see the downfield pass though.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
No, he underthrew it. Absolutely. But instead of shutting down the long pass like we've done before, Billick actually let Boller go deep again and again. I think that is the difference. How is Boller going to learn how to throw those, or ANY QB for that matter, if when the first time he misses you stop doing it? So I say let him keep throwing deep. Yes, he will be intercepted again. But he's going to start completing more of them too.
And you saw with every long pass, he got better through the day on them. And then he threw a touch pass to Darling for the TD.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
I agree, he should definitely be throwing deep often, I think it's probably what he can do best. I don't think the short passing game works well for him, letting him throw it downfield is a much better use of his skill set. Some of the intermediate and deep throws he was making in the second half were great, especially the ones to Darling and the one to Mason to set up the field goal.

Re: Demetrious Williams Out Tomorrow. Sigh.
Agreed. He did have a couple nice short throws today too though. One to McGahee for 10 yards, and one to Mason running through the middle in the last drive come to mind.
I think this is actually stuff to build on. It was exciting, I'll say that.
