  1. Garrett's Mentor - Nick Saban?

Jason Garrett’s inexperience is one thing, but the coaches that he’s learned under may be an even bigger issue. Considering that 2 of his 3 seasons in coaching were under Nick Saban, we probably should have expected negotiations to go this way.

    Jason Garrett’s Professional Mentors:
    As a Player:
Princeton University – played under Ron Rogerson and Steve Tosches
Columbia University – played under Jim Garrett (Jim Garrett resigned after 0-10 season and allegations of verbal and physical abuse)
San Antonio Riders – played under Mike Riley
Ottawa Rough Riders – played under Dave Ritchie
Dallas Cowboys – played under Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer and Chan Gailey
New York Giants – played under Jim Fassel
Tampa Bay Bucs – played under Jon Gruden
    As a Coach:
Miami Dolphins – QB coach – under Nick Saban
Dallas Cowboys – Offensive Coordinator – under Wade Phillips

Additional: Left Princeton after one season to play for his dad on an 0-10 Columbia team, then returned to Princeton after his dad was fired after one season.
Left Miami last year after 2 seasons for more money and a promised head coaching job in the future, now considering leaving Dallas after 1 season for current head coaching job, but not before leveraging his current employer to get as much money as possible or to possibly relieve his boss to facilitate his promotion now.

That looks a little unstable to me, but I think if you want to get ahead in the NFL, you have to move around a bit. I would not get bent out of shape concerning his playing career. Let's face it--he was lousy.

His coaching career may be suspect, but really, his coaching resume is so limited (3 years), you really have to judge him on character qualities and I am sure the Ravens have pulled out all stops to check his background.

I don't care that he learned under Saban. I care that in 2004, he was still playing football. Has ANYONE in NFL history become a HEAD coach less than 4 years after retiring as a player??

Just seems like a lot of people may be jumping the gun here, but who knows.

That coaching resume is a little disturbing -- two years under Nick Saban and one year under Wade Phillips, and that's it?

He must have great intangibles to be in such demand, I guess.
